All In the Family - Happy GuestHouse

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on February 11, 2015

It’s a family-run B&B - small, compact, informal and friendly. Close to the main road and quite central, are added advantages of Happy GuestHouse. Three to four other B&B surround this place but quite frequently, I found patrons from the other B&B lounging around in the open area of Happy GuestHouse. I put it down to great service, piping hot, delicious food, informality and the friendly atmosphere.

The moment you enter its premises, there is a large dining area to your left. At one end of this area is the Reception. Behind this is the main building. If you walk on ahead, you will come to the second building which has more rooms and more floors.

All the rooms are of standard size, a bit cramped but manageable. You have a colour, tube TV, an attached bathroom with geyser and running water. There’s no telephone or intercom, so you better remember to bring all that you need before you enter your room on the fourth floor! There’s no wardrobe but there’s an A/C as well as an overhead fan. Laundry services are available at the standard rate of US$ 1 for 1 kg of clothes. No ironing.

All footwear is to be removed before you enter either building. It won’t get lost or stolen but it can be quite irritating, especially when you are dead tired at the end of a long, hard day or when you have had one too many.

Chhorpoan is the driving force behind Happy GuestHouse. Easily her father’s favourite, she is super-efficient, smiling and a bundle of energy. Tell her all your needs, pour out your heart to her, cry on her shoulder – she’ll solve each and every problem for you. Whenever she leaves the B&B for a much-needed trip to the market, the place suddenly seems forlorn and empty – devoid of any form of life.

Food is tasty, delicious, varied and home-cooked. I loved whatever was on the menu. Portions are adequate and it’s piping-hot. What more can you ask for in a foreign land?
