Smiley's Guesthouse

by strollingfish about Smiley's Guesthouse

A well decorated house, clean and bright. Shoes are all put outside. The restaurant serves decent food. Pancake with lemon and honey is well worth a taste. You don't need to pay until you check out. Each item is written down in a notebook. Credit card is acceptable but you have to pay another 10%.

Single room with fan, bath and tv 7$, Double room with fan, bath and tv 9$. They also have rooms with aircon

Golden Angkor Hotel

by Hawaii-5-0 about Golden Angkor Hotel

Rates:US$15.00 night (moderate) just a few dollars more than Smiley's Guest house down the street. Golden Angkor Hotel is much cleaner, has bigger beds, private bath, has a small refrigerator in each room to keep canned soda or bottled water cold, a large ceiling fan and a strong air conditioner. Central location in Siem Ream, close to the airport, post office, police, hospital,Green House Restaurant
and other fine dining locations,5 km to Angkor monuments, and located next to Star Mart-a modern convenience store with scanning bar coded check out and everyone pays the same price.
Hotel staff was very helpful and friendly

Great Backpacker Place

by cafank about Smiley's Guest House

We had a 2 night stay here and it was wonderful. The website had said that it was " One of Siem Reap's biggest backpacker dens" and we were a bit worried...but it was fine.

There was a great mixture of young and old (that's us ) backpackers and travellers which was great.

Our room was very clean and comfortable, we opted for hot water but cold water rooms are available at a cheaper price.

The building is pretty plain - no Cambodian charm at al really but the hosts, and staff, were friendly offering us help and assistance at all times (maybe a bit too often!)

There's now free wi fi and you can take a bicycle out for trips as well - they weren't in the best condition though! Food available. They picked us up from the bus station as we had prebooked.

Overland from Thailand to Cambodia

by thedouglas

We are a couple who want to travel from Thailand to Cambodia overland. Have flown to Siem Reap, but would like to see more of the country this time. Can anyone recommend a service, accommodation etc. for this trip?

Also keen to get a recommendation for a good guesthouse in Siem Reap, which has relatively good standard - bathroom and air con if possible - and any generally recommended guesthouses along the way.

...Also a possible boat trip from Cambodia to Vietnam, and same information needed.

Thanks in advance.

I learned much information from that site too. I stayed in Smiley's Guesthouse while in Siem Reap. They are friendly and offer everything you need. I stayed there for 6 nights. You can have a look of the pictures on my Siem Reap page.

I stayed at Bright Lotus I in PP. It's one street off the riverside. Great location, as it's close to the river, royal palace and national museum. Tales of Asia is a good site for travelling info.
