Good & Classy Hotel With Good Location

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on July 12, 2009

During check in, the hotel receptionist wasn't very friendly and polite. They will try to find ways to charge you extra. For example, I travelled with young kids and they tried very hard to get me to pay for extra bed which I refused. I told them my kids can sleep with me on the same bed. Then they issued extra breakfast coupons for the kids. You have the impression that the children eat for free. But you will be very wrong. When you checked out, they actually charged you for extra breakfast taken by the children. Anyway breakfast served has very poor varities (maybe less than 10 items including fruits and coffee) of oriental food and very few selection of eggs, toast, jam and ham or sausages. No refill even there are many customers not eaten yet. Not worth the money to eat your breakfast in this hotel.

However the hotel is fully finished with polished timber panels. It is has a very expensive appearance. The room is very clean and spacious for even Superior room. Split air conditioner is cold. Bathroom is clean. Don't be fooled by the hotel website showing there is a swimming pool. There is none.

I fully recommend any travellers to stay at this hotel to save taxi fare. Every location is within walking distance. It is also strategically located around 50m to Old Market area and short walking distance to Pub Street. So good & clean food is not a problem at night. Recommend travellers to eat your lunch and dinner at Pub Street. Food is very tasty and affordable. Even Koulen restaurant (dinner buffet including Khmer dancing show at US$12/adult) is nearby and the food there is super good. Has no problem with security also. You feel safe walking at night because it is full of police and army guarding at every corner of establishment.

If there is a choice, do not eat your lunch inside Angkor Wat complex. The price is very expensive. For example, a plate of fried rice will cost you USD5-USD6 excluding drinks. Tell your driver to come back to town to have your lunch and refreshen yourself at your hotel before going out exploring again.

I fully recommend any traveller to use the service of this driver of mine. His name is Mr Dara Rann. He is very honest and quiet man. He drove an old Totota Camry. Never encouraged you to do shopping to earn commission unless you requested yourself. His daily rate inclusive of petrol is USD25/day if just around Angkor Wat complex or USD35/day to go further location such as Tonle Sap river or Phnom Kulen. Do tip him well. He can be contacted at his H/P # +855-12-784448 or email ranndara1980@yahoo.com. He doesn't read his email everyday. Give him a few days to respond.
