MEALY CHENDA: EXCELLENT VALUE

After searching the area near Victory Hill i decided to stay at Mealy Chenda Guest House. I had a single with bathroom for a very reasonable rate, the room was clean and the maid tidied the room up every day. The beach which wasn't the best beach i had ever seen was just a 5 minute walk down the hill. However you could rent a chair on the beach from one of the restaurants and enjoy a swim. Mealy Chenda has a buffet twice a week for a very reasonable price...and the food was excellent. On the top floor there was a bar with pool table, big screen tv for movies and football, and an excellent view over the ocean. The owners were very friendly and if i remember correctly they had two children overseas called Mealy and Chenda who helped pay for the GH, hence the name.

Beach Club Resort: Best value hotel in Sihnaoukville

We've stayed at dozens of hotels around South East Asia, and in my opinion this is one of the two best we've been lucky enough to find. It's just a short stroll to the beach and the very lively Sihanoukville lively night scene, but in a quiet location down a restaurant lined street 2 blocks back from the beach. No complaints at all about anything - the staff are amazing and can't do enough for you even in their own time (without wanting anything in return). The previous review mentioned the breakfast being a bit pricey, but what a breakfast! Worth every cent in our opinion and being a buffet it's very tempting to eat far more than you need to because the food is so good.
Highly recommended - full review with photo's at http://www.littlewhiteswan.com/Accom/az06/04.html

Cinderellas Dive Center & Beach Bungalows: Great Diving at Otres Beach

Sihanoukville is surrounded by small and unspoiled islands and has one of Cambodias nicest beaches, the Otres Beach. It is still not overloaded with turism. We did find best conditions for your holidays and diving courses .

Cinderellas Dive Resort right on a beautiful sunset sandy beach with the Center and therefore, we had perfect conditions for our diving courses There is complete equipments to rent at the Dive-Center and we also had a classroom for our lessons.

Great staff made our stay a lot of fun.

Sunset Garden II Guesthouse.: Clean and friendly.

When my first choice of guesthouse was full, I was taken here by a tuk-tuk driver who recommended it. I am normally hugely sceptical of the recommendations of these guys who are merely seeking the best commission, but this proved to be a good choice. It is built on the side of a hill which leads to an extremely odd layout. Entering from the main road, you descend what seems like a never-ending set of precipitous steps into an area that serves as reception area, restaurant and predominantly the family living room.

I have to mention the family here. The guesthouse is run by an extended family and they are all extremely friendly. The lady in charge speaks good English and the youngsters aren't far behind, a fact no doubt assisted by their habit of practicing the language on you at every available opportunity. Some poeple may find this tiresone but I love it. A couple of cats and a somewhat yappy dog called "Lucky" complete the family group.

Having descended so far, you then trek back up (not quite so many) steps to your room (pictured) which is good sized, ensuite and spotlessly clean. All rooms also have a small balcony and, although the views aren't spectacular, provide a pleasant place to sit. A satellite TV with a good selection including various Western news and sports channels completes the set-up, and all yours for a very reasonable $8US per night.

I won't include a seperate tip for the "restaurant" as, if you are not staying here, it is unlikely you will ever find it. Passing trade is not a feature. They do, however, have the usual range of Western and Asian food, with the pork noodles being particularly tasty.

Sunset Garden II is well-situated being a couple of minutes walk to the beach and also close enough to the Victory Hill strip to be convenient but far enough away to avoid the noise.

Recommended.

No unique qualities (except perhaps for numbers of stairs) but a clean, decent, friendly place to lay your head.

Sokha Beach Resort: Luxurious setting

This marked the end of my holiday in Cambodia so I decided to splash out and stay in luxury whilst in Sihanoukville. I was disappointed with the hotel, it is not a 5* resort by any stretch of the imagination. The room was elegant in its design but not that spacious, the hotel in general seemed sterile, the staff were all very helpful and polite but not really friendly.

The hotels real plus points were the beach which is private and the gardens which were well tended. The pool was pleasant enough but the pool-side bar was expensive.

Breakfast was included in the room tariff and was a good buffet style with plenty of choice although I felt that the room was not that pleasant in terms of decor. I decided not to use the hotel restaurants but instead to try some of the restaurants in the town instead.

The only real plus point for the hotel is the beach which is owned by the resort.

Leng Meng Bungalows, Sihanoukville, Cambodia: Great location on Serendipity Beach

A bit overpriced in my opinion at $35 for seaview and US$30 for no seaview, this is the perfect place to chill for a few days. Right on the beach, plenty of comfortable chairs to waste the day reading a good book. No internet access, but who cares when you're chilling.

Cloud 9: Most Peaceful place on Serendipity beach

No it is not closed. Don't listen to the moto drivers who insist it is and then take you to GST guesthouse. Cloud 9 is at the rocky end of the beach. There are 7 wooden bungalows spread over the hill all with a great view of the sea. Spacious with attached bathroom, fan, mosquito net and relaxing balcony. 24 hour security/ Prices range from $10 to $17. The owners German/Australian and the staff are all really friendly. Even if you come here for a drink, there are plenty of big cushion chairs and bed seats to relax on and enjoy the view.

Peaceful and quiet. Really comfortable and secure. There are no building works going on so snooze as much as you want.

Sokha Beach Resort: The best beach there is in Cambodia

This is a five (Cambodian) star resort built in 2004. It has its own beach with sunbeds and no sellers whatsoever. It's also cleaned every day.
Here you can get some lazy days off and when you're fed up with the resort life, it's only five minutes by the free shuttle service or a tuk-tuk to neighbouring Serendipity Beach, where the bars never seem to close.
The hotel prices still go down and now (November 2006) it's possible to get walk-in rates at USD110 induding breakfast.
You can find some good deals through www.precisionreservations.com and www.agoda.com
I booked some nights at the rate of USD78 + tax and got a nice seaview room. The garden view rooms are as good I believe as all come with balconies. If this doesn't fit into your budget, Serendipity Beach offers accomodation from USD5...

Sokha is a family friendly resort. Like everywhere else in Cambodia everybody wants your money: Drinks are more expensive than outside the hotel. e.g. a can of Coke costs USD 2.50 - the same as a beer.
Spoil yourself in luxury. Friendly staff and great service. The hotel also offer taxi service to Phnom Penh - a four hours drive at USD45
