Anyone have experience going to this festival? Is it simply amazing?? What are the exact dates of the festival? I think I understand the boat races are for 3 days but the festival may last a little longer? I am hoping that my travel to PP coincides with the festival =) Thanks!
Ben
Hi Ben
In 2008, I spent a whole afternoon watching the boat races on the Tonlé Sap River. The riverbanks were packed with people cheering on their champion and it was a fantastic scenery. The highlight of my stay in PP.
I have a few photos on my PP page: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/b14f9/123984/
The festival goes for 3 days from 1st to 3rd of November.

Many travelers will not use ice when on the road and it is generally a good precaution but some places are too hot to not be tempted. Cambodia is one case in point. In addition to the heat, the ice is said to be hygienically made though this says little for how it is handled after this process is finished. I saw lots of blocks of ice sitting on the pavement waiting for their intended recipients to drag them to their coolers. But the last time I checked, no serious health hazard has been attributed to mere dirt even if ingested so it kept me not from enjoying one of Phnom Penh’s better taste treats, the frozen fruit shake.
There were loads scattered about the city but the best ones seemed to only appear in the evening outside the big central market. They generally served up some fried noodle type snacks so it was easy and cheap to make a meal of it as well. Most of them had the same ingredients but we found one that had sour sop, though it seemed to be a bit early for the season of this fruit to be in full swing. It went really well with papaya and the real secret sauce so to speak was the addition of canned sweetened condensed milk. It sounds awful but mixed in with these tropical fruits, the flavor was positively addictive! (concluded below in Fondest Memory)
I have been to Cambodia for 2-3 times now and every time I visit Cambodia, I never forget to order palm wine produced by Confirel.
The first time I visited Cambodia, I was afraid to taste any of the local food, especially on anything that I never had before. But my second time, I was braver and started tasting something different, such as Prohok, sour mango pickle with salt and chili or sour mango with fish sauce .... yum :)
After I visited the Night market, I have introduced to the palm wine, and palm sugar. The first wine I tasted was Pineapple palm wine, which contained only 8% of alcohol. The wine has a little sweetness from Pinepple. It's different from Grapewine in a good way. It's light and fresh, fit well for the lady or whoever do not alcoholic drink.
Another one that I taste was, Jaya, which they called Palm Whisky. Jaya has a great taste for a 40% alcoholic drink. I enjoy it alot.
Next time you visit Cambodia, don't forget to switching your drinking grape wine habit and try palm wine instead. I guarantee you will like it.
You can find palm wine at any supermarket especially in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, at restaurant, mini mart, etc.

A mask would really be good to block off the dust and dirt that whirls into your face while you're travelling on a motorbike or tuk-tuk. Was starting to regret not preparing one five minutes into the trip but thankfully my driver stopped by the roadside and got one for me!
After tired been hangin around the russian market, we bumped into one place that call 'The Best Coffee In Phnom Penh'
The place just simple, to have a drink to release the tiredness after wandering around .
Guess What? I managed to captured a picture of Miss World of 2002 during her visiting in Russian Market. It's quite funny actually as I thought it was their VIP or King who visiting the place instead of 'Miss World'
but I am very lucky to get a chance shoting her picture eventhough I dont have any idea why should I do that....
