A hotel with a good location
The Riverside Hotel is a reasonable place to stay.
Unique Quality: The hotel is very conveniently located for Wat Phnom, Central Market, the French Quarter and the boat to Siem Reap.

FCC Hotel
We stayed for a night in Bayon Room for $94 and the room is clean but not that spacious. It gets a little noisy at night since upstairs is a restaurant which plays jazz and contemporary music.
The bathroom is huge with glass-encased bath tub and shower. Mirrors surround even the shower area so I had that uncanny feeling that someone is watching me!
Each room has a picture of the Angkor wat temple to which the room is named after. It has a mini bar and cable TV.
Unique Quality: Bayon room comes with a terrace which overlooks Sisowath Quay. It's 5 mins walk to Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda.
They have the option of serving the breakfast in your room or in the dining area upstairs so you can hang the breakfast sign (options ticked off) by your door. Unfortunately, they said the breakfast can be served as early as 6 am but it never came that early so we had them to go on our way to the airport.
Breakfast options are
1) American fare
Hotdog or bacon
Eggs
2) Cereals
3) Porridge with chicken or fish
Drinks: coffee/tea/juice
Dessert: fresh fruit or yogurt .
It has an interesting tie up with a hotel in Siem Reap and the package can come with airfare courtesy of Siem Reap Airways.

mold and #@$! coffee
This place was bad. I will not go into detail, but almost everyone with me (we were a research group) got some kind of bizzare lung issue from the mold everywhere and I can't even describe what the coffee was. Was it coffee? Avoid it. IF you do go, you should practice your French. It helps much more than English if you don't happen to speak Khmer.
I didn't choose to stay here, but I suppose it should have been "swank"?

Relaxing by the River
Good location, rooms were large and clean, lifts were a little slow but not an issue. Staff didn't seem to speak much English, but were friendly none the less. Probably wouldn't dine on the premises though, would get better value and probably tastier fare from the many restaurants or street vendors.
Unique Quality: Good distance from attractions. Wonderful view from our window at least.
