Sunway Hotel Phnom Penh
1 Street 92, Sangkat Wat Phnom, Phnom Penh, 12202, Cambodia
Good Location Medium 4 star hotel
Spent 2 1/2 weeks there this summer on business. The rooms are average and the decor is a tad outdated. However for an extra US16/day you can get a room with a very large balcony (more like a patio). The housekeeping staff is good and moved cleaning my room from afternoon to morning at my request with no problem. The bathroom is clean but pretty basic. The tub was long enough but shallow and narrow so it was no fun to soak and read a book. The breakfast buffet is very good. The bar and restaurabnt staff are very good as are the front desk staff. We were lucky to find a reliable car and driver Anet 011 532 544 who took us shopping or out for dinner waited and took us back for a flat US$10 (no tip). The bar has these English men's club type chairs and are very comfortable and I ordered dinner there several times (they serve the full dining room menu). The TV in the rooms is pretty good with several English movie and entertainment channels as well as the usual CNN. It is near Wat Phnom and the US Embassy and not far from the restaurant district where the FCC and the Chiang Mai and other popular bars/restaurants are located.
Unique Quality: Plesant staff good location.
Directions: Near US Embassy and Wat Phnom.
We always stay with friends in Phnom Penh so no need for hotels, various friends have stayed in the 3 hotels in my tips and have good things to say about all of them.
Friends who went to Phnom Penh on business asked us to recommend a hotel, we had been to Sunway a few times for dinks so recommended this hotel to the,. They enjoyed their stay, brief as it was!
All rooms at the Sunway Hotel have king sized beds, air-conditioning, international direct dial telephone lines, television with satellite programmes, mini-bar, personal safe deposit box, key card system, hair dryer and complimentary coffee and tea making.
Deluxe balcony rooms have a big balcony overlooking the street in front of the hotel. The deluxe balcony rooms come highly recommended by our friends.
There is also a fitness center, spa, steam baths, sauna, massage and jacuzzi at the Sunway.
The hotel is surrounded by colonial buildings, library, post office and the city hall. It is also close to the embassies Wat Phnom.
There is one restaurant which is open all day..
Buffet lunch and dinner are highly recommended here, snacks and refreshments are available in the Lobby Lounge.
The Airport is about a 20 minute drive away.
No 1 Street 92 Sangkat Wat Phnom Phnom Penh
excelent services & near gov. offices
Tumbs up from beginning till I checked out from this nice hotel....
I took room reservation directly from their websites and surprisingly the response was fast.
they give me good rate, good handling and good taxi for picked me up at the airport.
I stayed in a nice decorated, clean and guess what... a balcon with same size as the room.
(but unfortunately i was alone, if not, i might had a barbeque party in the balcon... :) )
talking about meals, their morning buffet also one of my favorite.
First I choose this hotel only based on its location near the CDC and next to the Ministry of Finace office (where I had a business), but now i recommend this hotel to anyone particulary who has business with gov. agencies...
but don't worry if you want to go around, to go to Psar Thmey you can ride a moto or tuk tuk for 1$. or for somewhere else you can get a taxi park infront of the hotel $25 per day... (i mean day not night..:-) )
have a nice travelling..
Unique Quality: Near the Wat Phnom
Near CDC (government office Compound)
Next to Ministry of Finance
Near US Embassy
but.. no pool...
Directions: Next to Wat Phnom
Close to Wat Phnom
I stayed at the Sunway Hotel in Phnom Penh. The pictures on the web site are accurate and the location is decent. A moto taxi to about anywhere reasonably close in Phnom Penh is 5000 riel (a little over a dollar). It's also within daytime walking distance of Wat Phnom. And if you don't mind walking in hot weather, you can also walk to the riverside area or palace.
The facilities were clean and good. The drawback was that it is expensive and they did not budge much on the rate ($80 single, $90 double). I e-mailed and asked if there was any discount for long stays and/or multiple rooms. The best quote I got was the same that a local Khmer-speaker was able to get at $80 per double, $73 for single before tax. So, please note you can't negotiate much like you can some other places.
Unique Quality: The AC in the lobby and downstairs was quite powerful. It felt great. The AC in the rooms was so so.
The room views were good - the front side of the hotel looks park like grounds. From the rear side of the hotel, you can see Wat Phnom and the Palace off in the distance.
Transportation is easy - plenty of motos outside wave at you whenever you walk out of the door. You can also hire a car or van with driver via the hotel (or on your own).
There is NO POOL. A friend and I found that out after asking the front desk. I was wearing a swimming suit, had on a t-shirt, and sandals. He was wearing a swimming suit, no shirt, no shoes, and a towell. I was embarassed and the receptionist is probably still in shock.
The cable TV is good - 55 channels from pretty much everywhere in the world. There are mainland chinese stations, Thai stations, Vietnamese, Indian, Spanish, Tagalog, Malay, Singapore, Indonesian, European, American, Latin American, etc. You name it they got it.
The breakfast buffet was good and fortunately came with the room. It included western food and Chinese items primarily with a large assortment of fruits, meats, cereals, etc. My only complaint is the juice was a bit fake.
Directions: A couple blocks away from Wat Phnom. About a 1 km walk from the Palace or the riverside.
A view over Phnom Penh
The view over Phnom Penh shows the mix of development, colonialism and local history. The building just across the street will be the new US embassy!
Good Location & Service
A good business class hotel chosen by our tour company. About a 12 minute walk from the river past Wat Phnom and across the street from the new US Embassay!
More about Sunway Hotel Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh now has the usual array of top-class hotels to pamper visitors on expense accounts. As good as any is the Sunway Hotel, a part of the Allson International group. It's close to the embassy district and offers all the usual business facilities. At 60-80 dollars a night, it's a bargain by international standards. If you don't stay there, at least sneak in for their lavish midday buffet.
Allson Group of Hotels
Ok, let's face it. I didn't expect such kind of standard in a war-torn country. So, this is a very pleasant surprise. It's definitely a 4+* hotel under worldwide standard. I'm afraid to say this but this hotel's standard is so very much higher than Radisson in Reykjavik & so much cheaper as well!
Buffet breakfast is gorgeous & the spa facility (with traditiional massage available) is just heavenly! A great value for money! If I should return for another visit to Phnom Penh, I'm likely to return for another stay.
Nice hotel with comfortable rooms, good buffet breakfast and friendly staff. Be aware there is no swimming pool.
There was a bit of hassle one morning at breakfast when an old Australian hells angel wearing a Waffen SS t shirt took a strop when there was no milk in the container so he threw it across the table knocking glasses to the floor. The Manager came over to us later on and apologised.
Located beside Wat Phnom Pagoda. Restaurants, bars and shops are within walking distance but we did hire a car to sight-see ie Royal Palace & Silver Pagoda, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Choeung Ek Killing Fields. Tuk-tuks are also available.
