Shanghai to Huanshan flight from Pudong or Hongqiao airport?

by happyshirt

Yay! Going back to Huangshan again in the spring. I noticed that all the flights from Shanghai to Huangshan seem to operate from Hongqiao airport. Is that correct? They flew out of Pudong airport in 2008. This will really affect my schedule so need to be very sure. Hoping someone here can confirm.

You are correct according to I think they use Honggiao mostly for domestic flights and Pudong for mostly Pudong. I think they still use Pudong for some domestic like Bejing and Chengdu but it appears no longer Huangshan. I think there are not too many flights to Huangshan which may be a part of the reason.

This really does put a damper on my plans. i'll probably hv to spend the nite in shanghai as my flight into shanghai arrives at nite.

Thanks for the information.

Any chance you can take a train or a bus? There seems to be some super-fast buses out there, taking maybe only a few hours (well, at least I know it only takes about 3 hours from Hangzhou, which is close enough from Shanghai...). I wouldn't want you to miss Huangshan! I've been there myself in September 2009 and it was AMAZING!!!

Actually, some domestic destinations seem to leave almost exclusively from Pudong airport -- such as Xi'an.

Travel Tips for Huangshan

Raincoat is useful

by Luckmui

Raining period from Apr to June. Course of quite frequent raining, raincoats is needed. More than 200 days each year on Mount Huangshan are misty and cloudy. Weather is very cold (if the day before is raining) when you watch sunrise in front mountain. But there is down jackets provide by hotel.

Suggest to bring a jacket even in summer. Its pitty cool at early moring and at night.

Now you crossed this. You...

Now you crossed this. You still have to think that you are lucky to WALK across this Carp Back Rock, if you know the railing/cable was only built recently: many previous travelers had to sit on it and slide forward. After this, there is only a very short and easy hike to the top of the Celestial Capital Peak, 1,841 meters elevation. Only a small bare rock area to hold however many hikers. That's why you have to start early. On our way down, those tour groups just started to hike up.

Ain't no greater than Huang Shan

"Great heights, great view of Huang Shang"

Mt. Huang Shan, also known as the Yellow Mountain, is situated in the southern part of Anhui Province whereby it extend across Taiping, Shexian, Xiuning and Yixian.

In the 90s, UNESCO acknowledge HuangShan as a world culture and natural heritage area, which consists of many famous mountains with peaks over 1800 meters above sea level.

Huang Shan is said to boast a great and spectacular view of beautiful landscapes with Taoist shrines as its background; Huang Shan also offers a good selection of tea specialties.

For those who are looking for adventure in this part of the world i.e. in China, you can always try Huang Shan, the marvel of natural beauty in China. But before you do that, you've got to muster some strength and energy to climb the steps in Huang Shan. Besides that, I would encourage you to try going to Huang Shan during the different seasons as each offers its priceless, and beautiful view in its own right.
