Baiyun Hotel

by irinasimone

Hi all,

I've just spent hours reading all your posts and answers concerning Huangshan- thanks a lot to all of you!

Now one question for myself:
Ellyse mentioned she prefers to stay at the Baiyun Hotel on top.
1. Where exactly is it located?
2. I just found an offer on the net: 1280 CNY regular price, 680 CNY if you book in advance on the site
(http://www.hstoday.com/English/hoteldetail.asp?id=106)
I will spend a night on the mountain on Jan. 12th - a Tuesday in the low season. Do you think I need to book in advance?
3. I'll be arriving in Huangshan on Jan. 13th - which Hotel do you recommend
(I'd like to start early next day going up the Taiping Cable car)

Thank you very much for your advice!
Greeting from snowy Austria,
Irina

Huangshan is on my travel list but not been there yet. I noted Ellyse also posted some informations on Tripadvisor Forum (Tripadvisor.com) dated back to 2008, may be you can find something there. Also, Ctrip.com is a very popular site for China travel, to me it is very informative, they have an English version. Good luck and hope you enjoy Huangshan.

What sort of room costs RMB1280 - it sounds like a suite. A normal room with two beds (the usual in China) should be under USD80 or RMB550.

1) Baiyun Hotel is about 5 mins walk from Bright Summit (Guangmingding). I usually choose either this one or Paiyunlou Hotel for their location. Facilities are fine.
2) Yes, I'd prefer to do so.
3) Arriving in Tunxi aka Huangshan city on 13/1? I thought you said you're staying on top on 12/1? Have you got your dates correct?
If you've any more queries, you might want to email me directly at ellyse99@yahoo.com -- put "VirtualTourist" and your own username (eg irinasimone) in the subject line.

thx, yes there was an error in my dates - I thought I'd be arriving monday 11th jan., but i changed plans so I'll be coming on Tuesday 12th with the night train from Beijing. So no need for a room in tunxi anymore.

I forgot to book the room on the mountain, so I hope there'll be some place for me... ;-)

All the best, let me know if you need help finding a place to sleep on top. :)

Travel Tips for Huangshan

From the top via the cablecar

by Sharrie

It was a different sight altogether at the foot of the mountains.

I managed to catch this scenery on my first day up... when the cable cars were still in operation.

Guess what? As soon as I get to the top, the rain poured!
But when I got down, it was bright sunshine at the bottom. Not sure if it's the same at the top.

Most times, the weather differs greatly between the foot & the top of the mountains.

Love Pavillion in Emeral...

by FreeCloud

Love Pavillion in Emeral Valley. We saw a few park rangers setting fire to warm themselves up, regardless of 'no fire' signs' in the park. Guess that's why an ancient Chinese say 'An govenor is allowed for arsen, but common folks are not allowed to even light up their oil lamps'.

Moving on...

by Sharrie

On a sunny day, this is supposed to be an awesome sight. Not this time though... I was disappointed naturally. But there's nothing one can do with regards to nature. U just have to bear with it & hope things get better with time. In this case, it didn't. So, I moved on...

Huangshan April 2003

Huangshan is incredible. Photographs can't convey the exhiliration arising from the sheer immensity of the drop-offs. However, it is very crowded with tourists and prices are steadily rising. I recommend exploring the villages in the surrounding area (Nanping and Hongcun), as well as the emerald valley that were filming locations for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
