Autumn
Autumn is the time when Chinese families go into the Western Hills to have a picnic and see the colorful leaves of the trees.
Wheather offers gentle temperatures and not much rain. It is my second favourite season in Beijing.

Hi,
Does the Beijing shops having Sales discounts after September 12?
What is the cheapest shop or mall for original clothes and sport shoes??
Thanks
I like Decathlon for their consistent quality and fair prices.
Typically what you want to buy should have the same prices at any shopping mall in Beijing. But there are indeed some season discounts and holiday promotions you can expect.
Try Zhong-You & Jun-Tai shopping center @ Xi Dan, Xin-Shi-Jie shopping center @ Chong Wen Men, Hua-Yu & Zhong-Guan-Cun underground shopping center @ Hai Dian Huang Zhuang. The name after '@' mark is subway station.
Shopping in Beijing is a bit difficult for foreign people, because the shops have very limited language service other than Chinese. Hope you will find what you need.
Decathlon is not the cheapest place but good quality products. Problem is they never have XXL+ sizes. XL size is like the large in North America.

If you have read my other pages you will know by now that this comes up on almost each one, and Beijing is no different. Well, maybe a little different. I only saw one of these the entire time I was in Beijing. And that was such a relief.
For the uninitiated, the Asian style toilet is supposed to be more sanitary than the western ones. However they are a little confusing to the barbarians from the west. So, here is a little primer on the privies of the far east.
Most importantly, bring toilet paper and towels with you as they are not always provided in public facilities! The other thing to remember is that some places charge for use of their facilities, so bring change otherwise you may be on the outside looking in. This is especially true in Japan, not so much in China.
First thing to know, the front of the toilet is the raised curved part below the tank in the picture here. You stand with legs on either side of the basin and drop your pants around your knees. Next, you squat over the basin, and go about business, making sure to keep your balance while you do.
The next part is the trickiest, to flush the paper or not. There is some debate over this. Many Asian style toilets will have a small trash can next to them with a plastic bag in them, I have been told this is where you place the soiled paper. But I have also seen ones that don't have this little can. If that is the case, I have assumed that it is ok to flush the toilet paper there. I am waiting for someone with more experience to correct me on this, so far none have.
If you are in some places in Asia, there may be a pair of slippers outside the door. This is so you don't dirty your own shoes.
If you are at the home of a person who has an Asian style toilet, don't be afraid to ask them how to use one, it is not uncommon, and you won't lose face for doing so. For further instruction, see the web page linked below for general instructions.
The Bird and Insect Market was very interesting. There are many other animals on sale here too. Ones that I have never seen except in zoos! There is also a cricket area, with heaps of bamboo cages and crickets chirping loud enough to deafen you!
There were land tortises walking around, big Iguanas and other lizards, a BOA Constrictor!!, green snakes, little red snakes, strange crabs, strange large snails, squirrels, a Tarantula!!, among the normal animals , there were many aquarium fish, frogs, chicks and ducklings, piglet, hamsters, and rabbits.
I was fascinated by the market. If you like animals and seeing strange animals, you should visit. If you are an animal-rights activist, maybe you should give it a miss...
Chinese name: Guanyuan Shichang.
How to get there: Fucheng Men Metro Stop. (exit B). along the east side of the 2nd ring road (Xicheng).

"Kids' Stuff" is located over four floors of a shopping complex on Wangfujing Street.
Tie up your children or leave them on Tienanmen kiteflying before you enter here! Absolutely every variety of childrens' toys, shoes, clothing, baby gear - everything is here. I bought two pairs of sandals for a nephew and a niece pria\ced at 128 and 98 Y respectively. Beat down the price with about 25 % on that.
The Beijing subway is extremely easy to use. There are signs in English and the stations are frequent and clean.
The trains themsevles are also extremely clean and have clear maps as well as announcements in both Chinese and Engish regarding the next station.
The price is Y3 per trip and the stations are located extremely close to major attractions.
