Beijing Language University
by Nprawira
The dormitories in the Beijing Language University range from the abysmal to brand new comfort. It is another testament to the absurdity of government regulation that you could pay for almost the same rate but getting the bad end of the deal. Long term students, studying for at least a semester, will be paying Y50/night for a standard 2 bedroom with personal bathroom, TV and refrigerator. Rate will go up to Y58/night during the summer starting from 1st of May. The rooms in the new building 17 go for Y55/night and then Y65/night during the summer.

by cinthya_in_victoria about Beijing Li Heng Tong Pearl
After our Summer Palace tour, we were taken to this pearl cultivated store.
At the entrance they show you a short video (in your own language) of how the pearls are cultivated and then, they take an oyster out from a pool, open it and show you the pearls inside of it. Each of us were given one pearl for free!
There are many kinds of necklace, bracelet and earings there. They have sea water pearls as well. From the ancient time, people have teasured and believed pearls are the symbol of luck.
A pearl necklace will be a wonderful souvenir to your mom, wife or girlfriend!! Pearl cream and all kind of jewlery as much as your credit card allows you
Taxis

If you are a non chinese speaking, make sure that the taxi driver know where exactly where you want to go before boarding.
However even if you know how to speak chinese, the accent may still be different and it better to write down the address where you are going.
I had a experience with a taxi where he drove us to the wrong hotel (both hotels have almost the same pronunciation in chinese but different words)
