Beijing Asia Hotel: A great hotel for a reasonable price

The Asia hotel is beautiful inside. Unfortunately it is not within walking distance of any great sites, but it is close by taxi to the Temple of Heaven.
Good clean, plush rooms and a restaurant with floating boats.

Spent 8 days here and enjoyed a quieter hotel than the Swissotel, just down the road. There is less activity in the lobby and business life here - less geared for overseas visitors. The place is obviously much used as a venue for company exhibitions, conferences, product releases and fashion shows. Also as a music venue, I discovered, with teenagers thronged the lift to stampede their heroes.
They have a better pool than Swissotel, but shopping services are a far cry from the friendliness and product range offered at the neighbour. If you do not like the postal/EMS services at Swissotel come here for super service and good English-speaking staff - great! I'd be happy to do all my post office dealings here in the future. Some good eateries on the premises - see restaurant tips as I build them. The karaoke bar with beers for 66 Yuan appeared to double as an unadvertised but apparently much frequented brothel (by well-heeled Chinese business men), hence the price of the good ol' Tsingtao beer which was some kind of cover charge. Could do very well without this institution in the hotel. The business centre was fine, and so was the executive lounge on the 18th floor with its relax areas and breakfast buffet.
