Funny English Signs
by dfactor
The Chinese authorities certainly have quite some sense of humour, don't they?
Do you understand what they are trying to tell you? Or warn you??
But then again, they have come a long way...... At least they are trying.
Good luck to you if you don't speak Mandarin, I've problem communicating with the locals, especially in Beijing. Hardly anyone speaks English on the street. The accent is Shanghai is much easier to comprehend.
If you have English-speaking friends calling you at your hotel, it is best for you to call the front desk and tell them to put the call to your room. Not sure if you will have this problem in the more expensive hotels though.

TEA on MaLianDao Street
by sunshine9689
It`s the street full of tea stores. We walked into one and bought everything we were looking for. Before coming to Beijing I was doing some research on what teas to buy, so I came to China with the list of teas I wanted to purchase(in Chinese and also their spelling in English).
Our tea hostess looked at Chinese characters and brought those teas for me to taste.
The teas were:
a) Mo Li Lan Xue (wonderful jasmine tea) = 200RMB for 200g of tea;
b) Tie Guan Yin (green tea) = 300RMB for 500g of tea;
c) Long Jing (green tea) = 220RMB for 500g of tea; For 1,750 kilo of a very good tea we payed $80. Later on I asked a local person about the amount we payed and was told that I was paying double price for everything.
So, read this and do not repeat my mistake - bargain hard!!!
