China Airlines

by mhrunge

I will arrive in Beijing from Hanoi Vietnam via Taipei by China Airlines. The airlines informs me that my flight arrives into Taipei too late to get the connecting flight to Beijing on the same day, therefore I need to stay in Taipei for the night and catch the 8am flight to Beijing. Question – is China Airlines responsible for the cost of the hotel for the layover in Taipei?

Cheers,

Re: China Airlines

Your trip is:

A. XXX to Hanoi to taipei to Beijing?
B. XXX to taipei to Hanoi to Beijing?

route A, impossible
route B, stupid, no one will take it.

Why not HOng Kong in transit ?

Taipei and Beijing doest not have direct flight for political reason.
Fly to Vietnam for transit is just stupid, even it is cheaper or what. No one will do like that.

Can you make clear what you saying? where are you from and you go ?

May depend on your fare bucket (booking class) - ask the airline.

>>Taipei and Beijing doest not have direct flight for political reason

Nonsense - China Airlines as well as China Air and Eva Airways have direct flights.

Why are you so ignorant? I have seen many "strange" replies on VT, but you take the prize.

Who thinks Beijing and Taipei have no direct connecting flights may google "CA185" and see it yourself.

Geez. I wish people who post ignorant answers would check themselves before being nasty to others pointing out their mistake!
For goodness sakes there're now direct flights between Taipei and many mainland China cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou, just to name a few!

Funny English Signs

by dfactor

The Chinese authorities certainly have quite some sense of humour, don't they?

Do you understand what they are trying to tell you? Or warn you??

But then again, they have come a long way...... At least they are trying.

Good luck to you if you don't speak Mandarin, I've problem communicating with the locals, especially in Beijing. Hardly anyone speaks English on the street. The accent is Shanghai is much easier to comprehend.

If you have English-speaking friends calling you at your hotel, it is best for you to call the front desk and tell them to put the call to your room. Not sure if you will have this problem in the more expensive hotels though.

TEA on MaLianDao Street

by sunshine9689

It`s the street full of tea stores. We walked into one and bought everything we were looking for. Before coming to Beijing I was doing some research on what teas to buy, so I came to China with the list of teas I wanted to purchase(in Chinese and also their spelling in English).
Our tea hostess looked at Chinese characters and brought those teas for me to taste.
The teas were:
a) Mo Li Lan Xue (wonderful jasmine tea) = 200RMB for 200g of tea;
b) Tie Guan Yin (green tea) = 300RMB for 500g of tea;
c) Long Jing (green tea) = 220RMB for 500g of tea; For 1,750 kilo of a very good tea we payed $80. Later on I asked a local person about the amount we payed and was told that I was paying double price for everything.
So, read this and do not repeat my mistake - bargain hard!!!
