Tu Ha Petroleum Hotel

by laramie

Hi,

I am going to attend a conference at Beijing International Convention Center (BICC)next week. Initially, I was booked into Continental Grand Hotel Beijing, which is located next to the BICC, but today my travel agent told me that the hotel overbooked me, and that I will be staying at Tu Ha Petroleum Hotel, which is supposed to be 5 minutes drive from BICC. I have to stay here because every other hotel within 5 km radius from BICC seems to be fully booked because of this conference.

I ve searched the net but couldn't get much infos about this hotel. Anybody knows anything about this hotel? I only know the address

Tu Ha Petroleum Hotel
2 Block 3 An Yuan East Street, Beijing, China

I also need help from Chinese speaker to spell the hotel name in Mandarin, and maybe some direction so that it would be easier for me to direct my taxi driver from airport to this hotel.

Thanks you very much.

I could give you the Chinese characters which would be of much more use than pinyin. Email me at ellyse99@yahoo.com and put "VirtualTourist laramie" in the subject line so that I know who you are, thanks.

Chinese characters turn into gibberish when posted on this forum. I already knew that therefore asked this poster to email me directly instead.

Travel Tips for Beijing

by zwack

Cloisonne: Beijing is where cloisonne making originated. The earliest was made in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). The best was made during the Xuan De period (1426-1456) of the Ming Dynasty. During the Jing Tai period of the same dynasty, handicraftsmen found a dark-blue enamel which gave cloisonne a gorgeous, solemn look & is still used today.

Xiang Shan. Which is the most relaxing place in Beijing. It's littlebit far from town.I can't remember around 1 or two hour. I will check the transportation later on. Just take by bus and easy and cheap to get there.

SILK CLOTH

by Sally_chen about RUI FU XIANG SILK STORE

Located in the centre of WANG FU JING street, it is a famous state owned old brand store specializing in silk cloth.

You can find very reliable good quality Chinese silk , all colour, many varieties. I like this place , always but my silk cloth from here.

If you mentioned the name of the store you any local , they will tell you they know it!

No bargain with the price, it's quite reasonable , quality is quaranteed.

Taxis in Beijing

by meteorologist1

The easiest way to get around Beijing for a tourist is by taxi. Most taxis are painted red and are easy to spot. The starting fee for the taxis is 10 yuan. There are different rates for taxis: 1.20, 1.60, and 2.00 yuan per km. The rate is shown on a sticker on the side window. If you are on a budget and always are looking to ride with the 1.20, these taxis are the small, old, Chinese-made cars (Xiali). I'm not sure if all taxi drivers are able to speak English.

Taxi drivers do occasionally rip off tourists by selecting a longer route and therefore requiring you to pay more. Be careful and make sure you know where you are. Also, a lot of drivers refuse to take you if it is a short distance. And finally, you can't call for a taxi anywhere. There are a lot of places that taxis can't stop to pick up or drop off customers. They will just pass by you. For example, taxis may not stop on Tiananmen Square or any large, busy street. Go to a smaller street to call for a taxi.
