If I had known......

This hotel was included in my tour package but I don't know their fares. I admit that the staff were friendly but this hotel wasn't what I expected. I don't know it it was my imagination but it smelled like garlic. It took me a while to get used to the smell each time I entered the hotel.

They also charge everything... even the water and a little bag of green tea I drank (which is supposed to be free or at least, included in the room fare). Personally I didn't have a pleasant stay, at least that was my experience, maybe somebody had a nice staying there.

The Underground...

The Underground Passages

There are entry points all over Bei Jing, it's best to ask a tour guide or travel agency, or if possible the locals. The entry to the Underground Passage that I used was near the Bei Jing Dong Jiao Min Xiang hotel.

These passages have been built under the city of Bei Jing and lead to places all over the city. Built a minimum of 8m under the city and up to 16m under ground, the passages were built to shelter the people from nuclear attack. They are large enough to store three months worth of food for the city and you'll also find some shops underground. (We visited a silk shop and marvelled at the silk quilts being made.)

This is a part of the city which many people, locals included don't know about. The incredible network has signs pointing to Tianamen Square, the Forbidden City and many other famous places. You will need to pay a small entry fee, but it's well worth the trip.
