This masterpiece was built between 1406 and 1420. It´s a huge place where the Emperor used to communicate directly with Heaven. Several times a year, he would come here on foot all the way from the Forbidden City to pray for good harvests, enough rain, and so on...
The construction is based around the number nime which is divine in Chinese numerology. The round altar is where the Emperor was reporting on the status of the country to Heaven. It is constructed so that standing in the middle anything said is amplified several times.
The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is interesting because of its 38-meters-tall building which doesn´t have any single nail.
The original one burnt down in 1889 but has been reconstructed since.
