Can some body give me names of 2-3 star hotels in Beijing,Xian & Shangai. The hotels should be just basic, near train stations, tourist ares, clean and not expensive. Thanks for your comments.
In Xi'an, I strongly recommend the Shaanxi Wenyuan Hotel in the Bell Tower Square. It's just a stone's throw away from the Muslim quarter and quite easy to get to/from the train station.
In Beijing, you might like to try the Minzu Hotel. It's located near the Yonghegong Lamasery and the metro stop of the same name, which makes it easy to get around the sights and train station.
In Shanghai, try Jiujiu Holiday Hotel near Xintiandi, Seventh Heaven Hotel on Nanjing Lu pedestrian street or Qixiang Hotel near Xujiahui. All are within 5 mins walking distance of the nearest metro stop, same advantage as for Beijing.
If you've any more questions, feel free to drop me a message. I'm studying in Shanghai.
We stayed at the Astor House in Shanghai and were very happy. I recently put something up on my VT tips page about it. Several other travellers have posted on it too. It's in a good location and has historic character.
In Beijing we stayed at the Red Wall Hotel. There wasn't much special about it except the location. It is two blocks from the north entrance to the Forbidden City. The best part of this was that we entered from this gate and had very few other tourists around, since almost everybody enters from the main gate by T. Square. It was wonderful to walk around, take photos etc and not run into many others until we had made our way some time later to the center of the City.
