Conquer The Great Wall
Everyone who travels to Beijing should make a pilgrimage to climb The Great Wall. The historical magnitude of the structure and location will inspire and motivate the steep and cumbersome climb to the top!

I will be in Beijing and other cities in early April and I need a Gortex or similar type material jacket. I noticed that most of the Eddie Bauer and Cabellas jackets ar made in China. I wear a U.S. size extra large. Can I buy a similar jacket in Beijing? If so where should I look?
If you buy one of the popular U.S. brands, you'll very likely pay more for it in China than you would in the U.S., unless it's a fake, in which case the quality might be great or might not be, all for a great price if you know how to bargain. But there are plenty of Chinese brands you could try.
So far as an extra-large, you might have a very hard time finding that in Beijing. Chinese people tend to be smaller, and it's unusual to come across sizes bigger than a typical U.S. medium or large. You'll be safer to buy your coat before you leave, in my opinion. However, the tourist places that sell fakes might have a large enough size for you, as they do sell alot to U.S. tourists.
While in Beijing, go to the "SILK ROAD" Market/MALL. Ask your Hotel. It is a 5 or so story building that is FULL on every floor of everything you can imagine to purchase in the way of clothing , shoes, and more. I purchased a "North Face" jacket (RED) that I used there during New Years with snow. Comes with warm Linner. I paid 30 Dllrs. I wish I had purchased one in black and another in Dark Blue. HIGHLY RECOMEND you go to this Mall. (see it on my HP)
If you're looking for functionality rather than a famous brand name, I would suggest that you try Decathlon: http://www.decathlon.com.cn/EN

This it outside of Tiantan, the temple of heaven. If you watch people practice their caligraphy, just as in Tai Chi, you get a total feel for the culture. These men are paiting characters with water on stones because paper is pretty scarce there.
The best place to bungee jump near Beijing is in Fangshan. There is also Qianlong park, but Fangshan a better jump because you jump into more of a valley so it feels higher (i'm not actually sure which one is higher)...and it's more scenic.
Fangshan also has Shidu, underground limestone caves and the Peking Man Site. Not to mention an escalator housed inside a giant yellow dragon that zig-zags up the cliff. The equipment is not Chinese (I think kiwis brought it over) they seem to know what they're doing.

well, not so sure it was this exact Silk Market where the guide took me to (of course he didnt ask if i wanted to visit it!), just forced me to come in like they always do...taking you to all kind of pearl, silk, jade factories and shops is a must for them after you are deadly tired from sightseeing tour:) but at the end i didnt mind at all, the tour in the factory was very informative and demostrative...though i was bit tired cause one of the salesmen was insisting too much on buying a silk blanket..if not for me, it would be great present for my parents..ok,. if not for you parents..take it for your friends.. all is from silk here..blankets, pillowcases, bags, traditional clothes, scarfs, ties..neverending! prices are different, blankets are expensive of course, but i bought few nice scarfs with beautifully printed ornaments, each costed max 20$
This is a street with pubs and bars, all next to one another, on 1 side of the street. It does not feel as lively as the nightlife district in other places but should be experience so you have a feel (or maybe because i went there too early on Sunday night) of Beijing nightlife. Apparently Sanlitun used to be "The place" but has lost popularity in the last few years as crowds move elsewhere.
There are some "sales" guys at the entrance to most establishments ushering you to go into their place. It is basically all the same, jsut different bands performing. Pick 1 that you like and enter. We entered 1 called 'Public Space'. If you are by yourself or with a bunch of males, you might find some ladies offering you their "service".
Drinks are quite costly compared to elsewhere. I think average about RMB50 a drink. None mentioned.
