email address of Beijing Airport Lost and Found?

by Masha_M

Hi, there. My backpack got lost after I checked it in at Beijing Airport on departure. Could anyone who speaks Chinese and lives in China call - +86 10 6459 8333 (Airport Lost and Found) and ask for an email address where I can send in my complain and a photo of my lost backpack. They have been searching it for days in my port of arrival but I don't think they are efficient enough. I feel I need to take action myself.
Thank you very much in advance!

Kind regards, Maria

It should be the responsibility of the airline, I think. Not the airport. What airline did you fly with, and where to?

Travel Tips for Beijing

Beijing's Hutong

by Ayacc

"Hutong" is a unique form of community that exists only in China, it means a small street or lane between 2courtyards. A courtyard is like a square, rooms are built along the 4 sides of the square.Usually 1 courtyard is only for 1 family to live in. A family may include 2/3 generation. Take a trishaw visit Wu Dong.

CHINESE FURNITURES...

by LysDor

...and ANTIQUITIES !

Shop at Chao Wai market close to Ritan park. The place is full of old and old-looking tables, chairs etc. You need to check the custom regulations to export the items to your own country: special taxes must have been paid and items must be marked with round red&white tiny labels. Remember to bargain here also; the service is good and will be delivery at your door for a minimal payment of few Renmins (summer or wintertime and no matter how heavy your chair or table is, the delivery will usually be made by bicycle!).

On the picture (taken at my parents house in Beijing), some of the coffee tables I bought!

Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park

by ipazur

How to get there ? Not easy, but I'll try to explain it from my own experience.
First, get to Dongzhimen subway station. Few metars east (Dongzhimenwai street) and then first street left, there is long distance bus station. Don't mistake it with public buses station on the beginning of these street, long distance bus station is 200 m from the corner, there is even an english sign which points direction.
What you need is bus 915 kuai, what means fast one. It's not 915-2 or 915-3, or just ordinary 915. Until you don't find small white container with number 915 you are not on the right place.
Get on the bus, and after approximately 1 hour get off on BIAN MIN JIE DONG KOU station. Cross the street and take a bus 915-2 and get off the bus on 4 th station. You are at the right place if you see big sign Yanjing beer. On the huge cross road turn right, Shunan bei (north road), and you'll see King and Queen garden hotel. From here there is approximately 2 km till Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park. Try to find a taxi, if you are lucky.
Before you start these advanture have in mind that nobody speaks english, so take some paper with Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park written in chinese.

Posted prices may be fictional

by melosh about A surprising number

The common VT advice that store prices, even those of sale prices, may be fictional in China bears repeating. Now certainly in grocery stores, drug stores and certain big department stores this may be found to not be true, but on my last trip I found that even in a couple stores with posted "sale" prices I could get two of an item for only 102% of the sale price for one. (And I went inside thinking that the posted price was reasonable.)

Perhaps this tip should be in the tourist trap warning section, but the trap seems to be for everyone.

When all else fails...

by BeijingBoy about Maggie's Bar

Maggie's Bar is (in)famous for foreign men visitors and residents alike in Beijing. Call it an 'after hours' lounge, with a great DJ, an active pool table and adequate dance floor. It's my 'last call' for any boys' night on the town that I occasionally provide guidance. Let's just call the female clientele 'friendly' and the local hostesses ensure your drinks are full. Some have been known to run up a significant bill when drinking with local hostesses. But the female clientele are for the most part upstanding and genuine. OK, it's my favorite bar in the world for its honesty and music selection. A call Scotch will set you back less than US$8. Listening to The Rolling Stones sing "Honky Tonk Women" in Maggie's Bar is what the song is all about. And they serve the best hot dogs in town. We've been know to leave the place when the sun has risen. A "must" tour stop. Casual.
