View from Beihai Park

Climbing uphill towards the White Dagoba is a sweaty affair, but when you arrive at the top (or nearly the top) you get a good view of the area, encompassing the lake as well as Gugong (the Forbidden City). During our visit, the White Dagoba was closed for reconstruction, though it will probably be open by Beijing's 2008 Olympics.
Useful Chinese Characters
by SLLiew
In Beijing, there is limited English signage and enough to get around the subway.
But this is a good opportunity to learn a few useful Chinese characters.
Photo 1. Exit (looks like a frog)
Photo 2. Entrance (looks like an armless person walking)
Other helpfuls are the character for "Man" "Woman" for toilets.
Most exits in Beijing are named according to directions, eg North Exit, South Exit, West Exit and East Exit. So knowing the characters of north, east, south, west is usually.
And also the characters for Beijing, Zhongguo (China) and Lu (Road), Jie (Street).
Packing List

Keep a roll of TP on you at all times, or at least a traveller size package of Kleenx. Most often there was no TP available in the bathrooms I visited, and I didn't realize that until it was too late. I learned quickly to keep a roll in my backpack and to take it with me everywhere.

If you want to join busloads of, head for the area of the wall at Badaling, about 70 kms (43 miles) northwest of Beijing. The 'remote' part of the wall at Mutianyu (about 90 kms/56 miles northeast of Beijing) isn't so remote any longer but is still less crowded than Badaling.

Spicy Hot Beijing!
by rsleisk about Latinos
LATINOS is a great place to go, even if you can't dance you can enjoy the scenery. Very upscale atmosphere, picture yourself in Havana, right in the middle of Beijing.
The music was great from a full Latin band with horns, congos and bongos. The drinks were inexpensive and the scene was HOT!. Highly recommended! Dress to impress, not like a slacker.
