Tianjin Airport to Beijing

by doxasozo

Hi, Will be in Beijing in August, 4 adults & 1 toddler.
Our plane lands in Tianjin Airport, how do we get to
our N.E.Courtyard Hotel in Beijing. Intend to take the Fast train.

From my research & reading up, please advise if I am correct!

From Tianjin Airport, take a shuttle (how much each?) to Tianjin Railway Station (correct railway station?)
then buy Fast train ticket to Beijing (how much each?) Fast train stops at Beijing Railway Station (correct station?) Then I will need to take 2 Taxis to the hotel (roughly how much?) Is there a van taxi where all of us can hop into instead of taking 2 taxis?

If I want to use subway to hotel from the Beijing Railway Station, how to I go??

Roughly what is the travel time from Tianjin Airport to the hotel via Fast train route?

If I get the hotel to fetch me from the Beijing Railway Station , will it be easy to locate the driver?
which exit should I head for?

sorry if I sound ... just a stay at home mum planning a 1st trip to Beijing with elderly mum + toddler,
want to make it as less stressful for them both as it's a long journey.

Many many thanks for all advise & input,
Linda")

From all the questions here, the only one I can answer is the one regarding the subway line. The circular line (line 2) services the Beijing Railway Station.

A suggestion: if you take a taxi, have the name and address of your destination written in Chinese because the taxi drivers don't speak English. If taking 2 taxis, both parties should have this information.

Hope it helps.

There is shuttle bus from Tianjin airport to Tianjin railway station. It's 10RMB per person.
As soon as you arrive in Tianjin railway station, you can buy train ticket there. First class seat is 69RMB and second class seat is 58RMB. The train arrives in Beijing South railway station, not Beijing railway station.
I didn't see any van taxi in Beijing, you will have to get 2 taxis.

Travel Tips for Beijing

Changing money upon arrival at Beijing airport

by chinagazer

When you leave migration upon arriving at the Beijing airport, you will run right into "cash exchange machines". These machines accept notes in USD, EUR, GBP , etc. Just put in some notes, press the button and collect your RMB (= CNY = renminbi = yuan). The whole operation just takes a couple of seconds.
No questions asked, no passport needed, no commission nor costs to be paid.
Official exchange rate.
Very convenient. Very fast. Machines accessible 24/7.
Nobody seems to pay attention to these machines, so no queueing.

Know Beijing is the capital of...

by zwack

Know Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China. It is not only the nation's political centre, but also its cultural, scientific and educational heart and a key transportation hub. Beijing has served as a capital for more than 800 years. The city has many places of historic interest and scenic beauty, including the Forbidden City , the largest and best-preserved ancient architectural complex in the world; the Temple of Heaven, where Ming and Qing emperors performed solemn rituals for bountiful harvests; the Summer Palace, the emperors' magnificent garden retreat; the Ming tombs, the stately and majestic mausoleums of 13 Ming Dynasty emperors; and the world-renowned and genuinely inspiring Badaling section of the Great Wall. Large-scale construction since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949 has brought great changes to Beijing. Today's Beijing still retains the alluring fascination of an ancient capital, but has added a small forest of skyscrapers and a complete range of municipal facilities, transforming itself into an attractively modern metropolis redolent of history.

I always travel with my Minolta SLR camera with 2 lenses (1x 35/80 and 1x 75/300 zoom), a two times converter, a polariser for both lenses, a spare battery and 10 spare rolls of 400 asa film (36) with 1 loaded into the camera.

Cherry Lane movies is a movie...

by bokononist

Cherry Lane movies is a movie theater for expats and English speakers in the area. It's near the Lufthansa center, and every Friday night they play a Chinese movie with English subtitles. Sometimes afterward the director/actors might be there to talk with the audience. Look in the weekly English magazine to see listings.

along the lakeshores

by tompt about Lotus Lane

The shores of the Hou Hai lake are filled with terraces. There is food and drinks widely availlable from the many bars and restaurants. In front of the entrance of the Lotus Lane, the street with the restaurants, we saw lots of people dancing in the square.
