I never recommend to take long distance bus.
I'd rather wait one more day than taking bus.

I could not buy my tickets anywhere but at the station last time I was in China (2007) and only two days in advance. Train is far better than bus travel. If it is not a holiday you should not have too much trouble getting a ticket but you may have to be flexable regards sleeper or seat. Friends say it is getting easier now to book tickets - doing some fine tuning for Olympic time so good luck and good travels

Travel Tips for Beijing
See the Great Wall. The Wall...
by asantetravel
See the Great Wall. The Wall was built as a deterrent to foreign invaders, but was not very successful as they just bribed their way in! There is a Chinese saying, You are not a man (woman or hero) until you have climbed the Great Wall. We went to the Badaling section, it felt like at least half the population in China was on the Wall that day. The steps are various sizes, there is no shade, and the pushing crowd makes it a bit dangerous. As you will see when you get there – the Great Wall cannot be seen from the moon, the streets of Beijing are a number of times wider than the Wall! It can be seen from outer space with binoculars, you can do your own investigation if you don?ft want to believe me. Knowing I was on the Wall was an awesome feeling and after getting down safely and amazing high. I bought a I glimbed the Great Wall T-shirt (not a misprint - check that spelling closely!). Even now back in Japan, I can vividly conjure up the Wall snaking around the mountain like a Dragon.

well.. although there r many foreigners visiting or working in beijing every year, u might still get ppl staring at u or wanting to take photos with u sometimes (say, the travellers from smaller cities in china), especially if u r very tall or maybe... hairy?! hahaha... they don't mean anything rude, just bit TOO friendly, so don't worry. if u donno what to do, just smile :) people might call u 'Lao Wai', it's not offending, just kinda slang. basically just be polite and smile, it always works!

Golden Resources: Supermarket
by Nprawira about Lotus Supermarket
The main problem of Golden Resources is obviously the lack of spending power to match the goods on sale. Facing the stark reality of the unability to attract enough visitors, the developer managed a steal in securing the tenancy of the Lotus Supermarket. At least it offers shoppers affordable prices for weekly groceries and everyday stuff. It rivals the other hypermarkets like Carrefour and Wal-Mart in size and merchandise.
Beijing taxis -cramped but convenient
by saa73
It's really easy to catch a cab in Beijing, just look for the little red taxis. Interestingly the taxi driver is protected from passengers by a metal cage.
Taxis are metered and start off at RMB10 minimum charge. Expect to pay around RMB 13 for a 3 km journey, and don't forget to ask for a "Fa Piao" receipt before you get off.
Questions and Answers
Q: Tour "We are group of 3 kiwi students with 2.5 full days to explore in Beijing on a budget. Want to see the 'must do's' great..."
A: "Two and a half days would be enough for what you mentioned. You won't need a tour for visiting these places except Great Wall. If you choose Badaling section, you can do..."
