I don't kmow if there are any people know 'Yuanminyuan' and the history. In 1860,the time when the Qing Empire was at it's weakest point,Beijing was takend by the Britain and Franch Army. It's a great pity that the armies set a fire to the 'Yuanminyuan',which was even bigger and more magnificent than the 'Summer Palace'.The Chinese and European style buildings died out in the fire, leaving only ruins today.
Weather
by keeweechic
January is the coldest month with an average temperature of -4.7 C while July the hottest month with an average temperature of 26.1C degrees. Spring is relatively short, and people apparently say that when the last day of the winter is gone, the summer is about to set in. Summer is usually hot with abundant rainfall. Autumn days are cool with clear sky and gentle breeze, making it the best season to travel. Winter can be severe.

Botanical Gardens again...
by mke1963
The far end of the Beijing Botanical Gardens is tranquil, and the Temple of the Sleeping Buddha is hidden among the trees as the slope rises up to the hills behind.
Not many people make it this far, preferring to stay near the glasshouses and the huge flower gardens nearer the gate.
This whole area is great for a picnic.
Carpet from factory!
by Sally_chen about Beijing No 1 carpet factory
This is the store owned by Beijing No1 carpet factory, the store is proper right in front of the factory .
I am a carpet collector, occassionally I found this place years ago and since then it becomes an addiction to come here.
Most of the carpets selling here are made by this factory , not cheap for the high quality .But it's 20-30% less than supermarket as they sel their own products.
Not many people come here , it's a simple decolated store, from outside you can't find they are selling good carpet .
Prices have been increased these years , but still worth to collect ( value does not decrease especially the hand made one)
I feel pleasant even if I do window shopping here! Somthimes they can give little promotion!

Rent a bicycle and join the crowd (or escape them)
by Confucius
If you're staying at one of the cheap budget accomodations in Beijing then they may have bicycles available for rent around 15 RMB per day with a deposit. Riding around Beijing is easy as there are sufficient bicycle lanes for you to use and the downtown area is mostly flat terrain. Bike riding is a great way to get off the main roads and head for the hutongs between Beihai Park and the Drum Tower.
Be sure to lock your bicycle as bike theft is still a big problem in Beijing. There are some bicycle parking lots on the side of the street that have an attendant who will watch your bike for a small token fee.
