Best Time to go to Beijing
by maribeldizon
Hi! My family plans to have our next reunion next year in Beijing and i need help on the following:
1. Our plan is to go first or 2nd week of sept. Would the heat be bearable by this time?
2. How long or how many days do we need to at least see the sights and enjoy Beijing?
3. Where can we rent a motorized wheelchair/scooter for the duration of our trip?

September is a real good month to visit and i would say that you should spend at least 5 days there to cover the main sights.

Thanks to all of you.I gather from your replies that it wouldnt matter much what week of september we go. That's great then, my two siblings can only join if we do it first week of Sept.

1) Great weather.
2) I would usually recommend 4-5 days for the main highlights.
I've been to Beijing quite a number of times. If you have any other questions you need help with (sorry, don't know about the wheelchair though), email me at ellyse99@yahoo.com and put "VirtualTourist" and your own username (eg maribeldizon) in the subject line.

Info on drinking water and ice in Beijing
by crewrower
In Beijing you should avoid drinking tap water anywhere. However, tap water is okay for bathing and brushing teeth. Ice you get in a hotel or your drink at a bar is generally fine.
Regarding prices of water, it's cheapest to buy large bottles in grocery stores. You'll pay more in the convenience stores. The only place where there might be any question about the integrity of the water is from streetside vendors selling it from a sterofoam tank. Even then it's usually OK, but if you have an option purchase from a store or official stall.
Salvador Dali exhibition advertisement.
by Guantanamera
The association between Salvador Dali and the People's Republic of China goes back to the time of the Chinese "great proletarian cultural revolution" when Dali produced many illustrations inspired by the poems of Chairman Mao Zedong, some of which were on display at this exhibition...
beat the freeze!
by dimanche
Remember to bring thick coats, jackets, sweaters if you're going in the winter! For someone who came from a country which has tropical climate....the cold was most of the time hard to take! Just a 10 minute walk from the hotel to the train station was enough to numb my lower part of my face...jaw and chin and all.....ugh. Best bring one that can work under whatever temperature to take in the best of the place! :)
China's wonderful parks and...
by o00o
China's wonderful parks and lakes are now open to everyone but it was not always been like that. In fact, most parks were private gardens reserved for the pleasure of the feudal lords and mandarins who ran the country until the Sun Yat Sen republic of 1911.
You could be anywhere in the world
by jlanza29 about RBL
RBL made the Conde Nast Traveler hot list for great new bars in the world, and the place doesn't dissapoint !!!! The place is ultra cool, ultra hip !!!! Full of wealthy foriegner's. The place serves as a restaurant upstairs and the cool bar downstairs....the only down size is that you'll pay South Beach prices for drinks, and food if you choose to eat there. High;y recommend it. get there early on Saturday night, it gets really crowded !!!!! No shorts, or sandals.
