If I had known......

Bad (2.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on December 7, 2007

This hotel was included in my tour package but I don't know their fares. I admit that the staff were friendly but this hotel wasn't what I expected. I don't know it it was my imagination but it smelled like garlic. It took me a while to get used to the smell each time I entered the hotel.

They also charge everything... even the water and a little bag of green tea I drank (which is supposed to be free or at least, included in the room fare). Personally I didn't have a pleasant stay, at least that was my experience, maybe somebody had a nice staying there.

A Four Star Hotel? To put it in perspective, the Chinese tourism board rates it public toilets, and four star WC's still has squat toilets, and often lack T.P. So in comparison, this is the Ritz. But it is not a four star hotel by any strech- more like two.

Bummers:
The staff speaks NO english, except for ONE person, who works the night shift.
Questionable cleanliness, maids use dirty rags and some rooms have bugs
No pool, or gym, despite what the website says. (Just a sign for a pool that was painted over)
Much of the hotel (and city of Beijing) is "Under construction for 'Olymplic Purposes' "
Limited Internet
Use caution when booking tours in the downstairs office, make sure you get a round trip shuttle
Only one or two english tv stations

Bonus:
EXCELLENT location- closest hotel to the sights.
Great breakfast
Limited internet, which can be a good thing
Very quiet
Mini fridge and tea maker in room
Only one or two english tv stations

Unique Quality: "Bran Band Internet"
Spa that offers a "little extra, for a little extra"
Free Charades game at the front desk
Excellent location, 5 min walk to Tiananmen square
Great breakfast
Free communist propaganda news daily (almost) every morning

Directions: Tiananmen Square
