Well, I did not stay in this great hotel. But I have visited it many times. When I am in Beijing I like to enter the hotel, go through its wonderful halls to the adjacent Beiing Hotel and enjoy the calm andluxurious atmosphere.
Unique Quality: The ideal location is the best quality of this hotel: Just a few steps to Tiananmen, Forbidden City and Wangfujing Road. The hotels offers everything you could expect from a 5-star-luxus-hotel: indoor swimmingpool, internet, beautiy salon, shops and much more.

The terrace provides views of the Forbidden City and the main thoroughfare that runs through the centre of Beijing. It was once an imperial palace before being turned into the first 5 star hotel in Beijing.

Lodging here is really dependent on how much you want to pay and how far you want to travel to get back. For Money No Object try Grand Hotel Beijing. If you're looking to spend @40 dollars per room for double occupancy try Jimen Hotel or Kai Hua Hotel. The Jimen offers a lot for the standard double rate of US45 per room but it is a long way out making bus use mandatory unless you want to pay the earth for taxis (a bus to the subway network takes 20 mins). The Kai Hua is not as luxurious but pretty close and it's only 4km from Tiananmen (300m from Tiantan Park) making taxis reasonable. Check out Ulink Travel who charge a setup fee but, get such big discounts it's worth it to take a look. It also offers In-Home stay.

I recently (July 13-15,2007) stayed at the Jiangxi Grand Hotel which had opened recently. It was a very nice hotel with nice rooms and friendly, helpful staff. Some of the extras were not yet available - fitness center, etc. Breakfast buffet was very extensive and tasty. I don't think it is too centrally located though. I really never got my true bearings in Beijing as I was on a tour so it was hard to tell which direction we went when leaving the hotel for the various tourist attractions. Several tour companies seem to use the hotel including China Focus Travel the company I used.
