Day trip to Cuandixia Village, Tanzhe Temple, and Jie Tai Temple
by Epesodic
Has anyone been to any of these places? Would it be possible to do it all in 1 day from Beijing? Should we went a private minivan since we have 5 ppl? Or should we take public transportation? If anyone wants to come on this trip with us, we'll be in Beijing March 23-31. We can book a private tour...the more people, the more money saved. Email me if you would like to go together.

It is possible to go all three place in one day from beijing, if you have your own minivan. But, you must know how to get there.
Jie Tai Temple & Tan zhe Temple: You may go to Pingguo Yuan station (the late station of subway line one) to take 931 route bus, the 931 route bus will bring you to Jie Tai Temle and Tanzhe Temple(the last station of 931 route bus).
Cuandixia Village: At Pingguo Yuan station of subway line one, 929 branch (!not 929) route bus will take you to Zhai Tang, which lies in Men Tou Gou District. When you arrive at Zhai Tang, you man take a taxi (about 10 Yuan RMB) to Cuandixia Village.
At last, I guess if you go to all three plaec by taxi, its cost will no more than 400 RMB (about 60 dollar).
Travel Tips for Beijing
Nangangzi (St Theresa's Church)
by egosyncratix
This is the church that is a little difficult to find because it is "hidden" in a hutong and although I figured how to go in the end, I really do not know how to describe it to you because I think the best way would be via Hongqiao Market (though I havent tried). From Chongwenmen, walk south to GuangAn Da Jie....then turn left and ask for directions to XinFu Road. Once you get there, the traffic wardens in brown are pretty helpful if you ask them about the Catholic church.

St Joseph's Church
by Nprawira
Located at 74 Wangfujing Dajie, the St Joseph's Church is a welcoming alternative to the countless shopping malls littering the bustling street. Fronted by an archway and an open courtyard, the triple-domed church had just undergone restoration after a turbulent history of destruction either naturally or man-made took its toll on its physical appearance.
The God of Tea
by Nprawira about Maliandao Tea City
A statue of Lu Yu, the author of The Classic of Tea or Chajing, will greet you at the main gate of the Tea City. He was commissioned by Tang dynasty tea merchants to produce an explanation on the benefits of drinking tea.
Bike it is Beijing
by bengilmour
I was studying Chinese language and culture at BIT, Beijing institute of Technology when I decided that I wanted leave the campus and explore Beijing for my self. It wasnýt long after I arrived (from Australia) before I met some students that could speak reasonable English. They invited me to go to English corner, and there I met lots of friendly people (some to friendly). That that time English corner was in the main building (The modern multi story building in the entry hall at 7pm on Tuesdays). This place became my link with Chinese students and from here I met many friends and was able to resource many local services and activities. The students bent over backwards to help in exchange for some practice of English. I was given and shown maps of buses, trains and road maps and anything else I requested. The best part was that I was taken not that far away to a bike shop. There I purchased a bike for around $25 AUD. I hit the road and explored this city with the other millions of bike riders. What an experience. There are plenty of places to park ones bike, and despite fellow westerners saying that it will be stolen, it remained with me the entire time I was in Beijing (with a trusty bike lock). The only downside was the pollution.
