I stayed here on my visit to Beijing, and what a place! The staff are excellent and all fuent in english and therefore are a great help. The staff seem to realise how hard it is for non chinese speaking tourists to get around and are well prepared to get you where you need to go.
Rooms were excellent quality! Quite simple hotel style with beds, tv, ensuite etc. Very clean and maintained well.
Amenities from the hotel were very good. Gym, pool, internet, restaurant and giftshop were really good
Room was spacious and had right temperature (it was winter when we came). The staff, although not very fluent in english, was very warm and polite. The hotel was clean, the towels and beddings were comfortable.
Our stay included breakfast, if you need an extra breakfast buffet, it's 50Y. You can hire transport to airport (300Y) or to any part of the cvity/great wall -- although, I wouldn't recommend it, it's more inexpensive to use a taxi.
Only down side is that it is really far from the center. I had to walk 3 blocks to the nearest subway station.
The good part about this is that it is right next door to a variety of fast food chinese restos (Malan, Nanchengxiang) -- very inexpensive and filling. Also near a bakery, and near several mini marts including Daoxiangcun Food stuff.
Just walking around the neighborhood is an experience in itself! =)

Frequent readers of old Cliffie's pages on VT can guess where he stayed in Beijing. Yes, it was at a Holiday Inn as usual. The Holiday Inn Temple of Heaven is located in the south of the city centre, not far –as the name suggests – from the Temple of Heaven complex. It is comfortable and well managed, with efficient doormen who can explain to a taxi-driver where the guest wants to go, and there is beer and orange juice in the minibar – so what is there to complain about?
