Badaling bus stop

by xuanthien

Hi,

I wonder if bus 919 from Deshengmen and tour bus from Qianmen share the same bus stop at Badaling. Some of us will use tour bus for Badaling and Ming Tomb, others use 919 for Badaling. We would like to meet at Badaling.

Thanks.

Thanks China Roamer for your advice.

NO...NOT THE SAME AT ALL!!! And I learnt through doing this myself and having the worst bus trip EVER~

On my Beijing page, if you go to the Tourist Trap section:
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/2c4ea/5bf/7/

You will see what both buses you talk about offer! In fact the Badaling Wall and Ming tomb combination bus was really quite awful...please be aware of this!

Good luck and have a great trip whichever bus you decide to take! If you do take the no. 44 to Deshengmen as Chinaroamer just suggested, please remember, the 919 does not leave from Deshengmen bus station, it's a bit further east behind the old city gate where you'll find the bus direct to Badaling.

visit the Forbidden City, the Great Wall, back streets-where you can feel, see and smell the traditional Chinese life, interact-whether you speak Chinese or not-with Chinese people, enjoy the Chinese Opera and jonglers, tour the city by the cheapest taxi-minibuses, watch the delicacy of Chinese ladies while shopping.. The intimacy (%85) and rudeness (%15) both characterize typical Chinese behavior-you'll like them all. Those cheerful kids (boys & girls) you should watch them play, eat fried chicken...

Fa Piao!

by jetsetjunkie

Fa piao is literally translated into "issue ticket". If anyone needs a fake receipt for office claims, purchase em from Xidan metro. Lots of vendors mumbling "fa piao, fa piao"... Hard to miss them.

I've never tried it! But maybe it might just be useful ;)

Fabulous food at a fraction of the price

There's this street where i spent a couple of days and ate at almost every restaurant along the street.
The mutton kebabs at the Xinjiang restaurant is superb (look for the green signboard) and a couple of doors away, there's a Thai restaurant where the spicy and sour noodle soup is delicious..with more than a hint of Chinese influence...nevertheless..it's lips-smacking good!
And in the mornings, i would get the freshly baked pita bread stuffed with mutton or pork..dripping with juices...

Rodeo Drive of Beijing

by rsleisk about Lufthansa Center Department Store

My friend and I could not believe the extremely astronomical prices at the Lufthansa Center Department Store. We were looking for deals on clothing and electronics, but this is not the place to go as prices were at least 4 times what you would pay in the states!

We had better luck in the smaller stores and shops further down Wang Fu Jing Avenue. Beverly Hills, Haute Coture prices! EXPENSIVO!

Durty Nellies - it's over near San Li Tun (bar street - packed with foreigners and overpriced drinks and general craziness) Anyway, this is one of the better ones, drinks are still pretty high but it's worth the trip for the live music and cure for Guinness withdrawal. It was here that I saw a Chinese band playing 'Sweet Home Alabama' (and not doing a great job) at an Irish bar - truly an international experience.
