Tianrui Beijing hotel??

by 1jabbar

Hi has anyone stayed here before? Opinions as to its quality. It appears within walking distance to Forbidden City (10-20min.)but I have also read of people taking the subway to Forbidden city. I prefer to walk if it is not too far. Opionions appreciated..Thanks

I haven't stayed there, but if it's where the map shows, you should be able to walk to the Forbidden City in about 5-10 min. It would actually take you longer to take the subway than to walk, I believe.

Travel Tips for Beijing

Tsinghua University

by meteorologist1

I enjoyed my stay at Tsinghua University and enjoyed walking in the university everyday. Inside the university there were shops including grocery and electronics. The university was also close to the Summer Palace and Yuanmingyuan. It's a long way though from the city center and attractions like the Forbidden City and Temple of Heaven. It's also a long way from the airport since it's located on the northwest side of the city.

When Beijing regained its...

by o00o

When Beijing regained its title with the communist takeover in 1949, Soviet advisors flooded in and the city underwent a period of reconstruction during which much traditional architecture was destroyed to widen Chang'an Dajie and to make Tian'anmen Square large enough to accommodate the massive manifestations favoured by the Soviets.

Hiking Ling Shan (Á¡¡ì¦É½)

by idy

Á¡¡ì¦É½ is good for anything from a day's hike to a several days' hike. Locals like to go there over the weekend, and there are several camping sites. Start out early if you want to camp at a better site than at the top, which has no protection from the wind. Further down the trail, a small group can camp on the unrestored section/watch tower of the Great Wall, or even further down, for bigger groups, an area close to a farmhouse. Do bring appropriate equipment suitable for the season. It's terribly cold in autumn and in winter, it's even worse! Water is a must, as is food, and a dry change of clothes and extra warm clothing.

Supermarket Shopping in Beijing

by KevinMichael about B & O Supermarket

I make it a point to get into a local supermarket whenever I travel to a new country. For one thing, supermarkets are a great place to buy inexpensive souvenirs. The other good point about checking out the supermarkets is finding food stuff you've never seen before but, you'd like to try it. My wife and I found some star fruit and dragon fruit. There were also a large variety of flavored potato chips in flavors we've never seen in the states or Japan. The dragon fruit resembled kiwi. And the star fruit... wasn't very memorable. Most often the prices are reasonably priced.

'Rain' - a treehouse bar!

by vic&michael about 'Rain'

'Rain' is so cool, I have to mention it both in 'restaurants' and in 'nightlife spots'.
It looks like a rainforest treehouse that has grown around a building.
It has cozy corners and even lofts with couches and rugs that you can sink into and feel comfy enough to talk all night. You can order food/drinks - the food was excellent! very yummy. They served nice cold beers. What more do you want?! No dress code.
Dress comfy :-)
