Folks: I'll be in Beijing around Nov 10th for a few days. What do folks (male) wear around this time in Beijing - in the day and night. Long sleeves shirt, sweater, light or heavy jacket, jeans or will shorts and t-shirt be OK during the day? I am from a 365 day hot climate so can't easily relate temperatures to what to wear. Thanks for your help.
I will be beijing myself on Nov 10 from Canada
I beleive it is COLD !!!!
It is 3 celcius so a good dose of winter clothing is recommended especially if you come from a warm country
All the best
hi,I'm the local beijinger, and I recommend strongly you bring the
sweater and heavey jacket .because this season Beijing is very cold ,
of course, the next month is more cold, maybe the lowest temperature
at night reach to 0.the last advice is bring enough money, you can
buy some clothes for you while you recognized it is need to do .at
least you can go a fashion shopping in china.
Thank you
Can you tell me a place where you get good quality "FAKE" stuff.

In october in Beijing you can wear T shirts or a coat outside, it's not cold but little cool down in the evening maybe some times raining .

Beijing employ an army of street sweepers. Where every you go there are sweepers doing their job. This means that Beijing is a very clean city with very little litter.
It seems that they always work the same area because at nigt you can see sweeps lying under bushes or propped against walls and I guess the owner just come back in the morning to start all over again.
They do a great job because the streets are cleaner than most placed I have been.
I always believe that if you want to experience the real Beijing, you have to venture into the hutong. Hutong means the lanes. In the old days, all Beijingers lived in the hutongs. You may still find some courtyard houses in hutong around the Forbidden City area and some has been converted into theme restaurant or galleries.
A good experience will be to take a bicycle and move around the lanes.. It is safe and nothing to worry about. You will discover the true local lifestyle in the deepest part of the hutong.
You may also be surprised with some interesting discoveries in it. Things that you will never expect to exist in the middle of a modern city.
The photo here shows a typical sundry shop cum breakfast place in a hutong during winter. A full breakfast here cost only 2 RMB that is less than 0.25 US cents.
Ok, this market is good and large, but it's bit, ,not by much but a bit more pricer than the silk market, and less crowded, and the quality here is a bit better. but no matter what don't pay the first price they offer you, keep a price in your mind that you want to pay and stick to it..... the vendores arent as agressive as in the silk market so it makes it for a bit less stressful environment !!!!!
I just came back from Beijing (13 September 2008 weekend) and the taxi ride from Beijing Capital Airport was almost hassle free. After clearing customs, I exited the secure area and was surprised not to see the touts that we were warned about. It seems the police cleared them out during the Olympics. I had my hotel name and address written in Chinese characters and this is where the hassle began. It seems the taxi driver did not know that particular hotel (strange since it was on Wangfujing, a major tourist street). Fortunately, I had the hotel telephone number which the driver called through his mobile phone. The hotel operator gave him detailed instructions on how to get to the hotel. My tip then is to make sure you also have the hotel telephone number since most if not all taxi drivers have mobile phones. My last resort would have been to stop the taxi, open my suitcase and show him the street map of Wangfujing. Fortunately it was my second trip to Beijing and was confident that I can find my way around. To summarize - name and address of hotel in Chinese characters, telephone number and worst case, city map showing hotel location.
