Beijing Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour

by SeeTheWorld13879

I am traveling to Beijing on the 25th of this month and I want to know if there is any bus tour company in Beijing that offers the hop on hop off service that you see in other major cities (Paris, Rome, London, U.S.)?

I am staying near the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and Temple of Heaven (within walking distance) but I also want to visit a lot of locations (Summer Palace, Drum Tower, Olympic Stadium, Behai Park, Legation Quarter and the Marco Polo Bridge) at my own pace so I don't have to rush to see everything before the bus leaves.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

I've heard that there're 2 new sightseeing bus lines, one which covers the major historical sights and the other which covers the Olympic-related ones. However I don't have the details.
I'm also certain they don't go as far as the Marco Polo Bridge.
Seriously though, what's wrong with figuring out the sightseeing via metro? That would be more efficient than buses.

Sorry, I know I checked back too late for my answer to be of any use to you.
But in case anyone else wants the information in the future, the nearest metro stop is Jinsong on line 10, and it's >2 km drive from the hotel.

Travel Tips for Beijing

Summer Palace - A Beautiful Gate

by SLLiew

In China, there are many beautiful gates built, many destroyed and rebuilt. This is one of my favorite gate located at the foot of Longevity Hill and overlooks Kunming Lake.

It is a symbol of era gone by where locals kowtowed to the Emperor or Empress of Chinese dynasties over the milleniums. Interestingly many have been burnt or damaged in wars or revolutions and being rebuilt or restored to their former glories as a historic and tourist landmark.

Fly a kite!

by idy

Beijingers are pretty big on flying kites. On any given day, you may spot a kite or two in the sky. At first you may mistake them from large birds, but no, they are kites. If it's a sunny day with a nice wind, not galing, the number of kites will increase exponentially.

It's good fun and you can easily get your kite up as high as your string is long, as it's a sunny and gusty city. Be careful, though, not to get into any kite accidents with the locals - if you have the ill fortune to meet a nasty fellow, he'll demand that you pay him if his kite is damaged!

Jing Shan Park

by Paul2001

Beihai Park is a pleasant park which I spent all too little time in. This is a very fine urban park that lies just north of the Forbidden City. The hill at the centre of the park is the highest point in the very flat city of Beijing. This hill was built by Ming Dynasty emperors to block out the northern winds that assault the city through the year. On top of the hills is a temple which is highly popular with tourists and locals alike.
I visited Jing Shan Park in the manner that most tourists do, I toured the Forbidden City for most of the day and then headed up to the park. This is primarily to get a bird-eye view of the Forbidden City. However, this being Beijing, the view was smothered with polluted haze. Walking down the northeast side of the hill, I found several other pavilions and locals singing for their own amusement. This is common to see in parks in China.
As with all the major parks in China, you have to pay to enter the grounds. Here the cost is just Y2. The park is open daily from 6am to 10pm.

Buying some stamps

by filipdebont about The Post office

Almost everywhere you can buy postcards of sets of postcards (10 pieces in a set), but mostly they do not sell stamps.

So after you have bought your postcards, the search for stamps can begin.

So asked the desk staff of the hotel where to buy some stamps, and they told me that there was a post office just around the corber. And to be honest I had already passed here several times, but I had never noticed that it was the post office.

So in fact there is a post office just opposite of the train station. stamps to send some postcards to the friends

Traffic Card of Beijing

by colintour

Using a traffic card will be very easy.
We will not many cashes everyday.
Usually a distance less than 12 kilometers will cost 1 yuan in cash, and it will cost 0.4 yuan when you using the traffic card.

All the buses under No.500 have the same price for cards owners. Every passenger should pay 0.4 yuan for one time.
You should pay bus No. 1 to No. 499 only 0.4 yuan for one person a time with your card.
But if you pay in cash, it would be 1 yuan or more than 1 yuan.
