This link has some good pictures of the ride so you can make up your own mind if it is safe to carry a baby while riding.

I think that it is dangerous to ride the toboggan with a 6 month old baby. You need both hands to control the toboggan.

Ok now I've been on that tobaggan in September and let me tell you honestly there is NO WAY you can handle the cart as well as a young'un in your lap. I took my 72 yr old mother (she had her own cart) and it was terribly fun (yes, I liked it!) but you'll have no room for a baby. I also think they will stop you from getting on with the infant in tow. Picture this: you are squatting in something like a shallow bathtub, with a huge joystick sticking up between your legs. That is the 'brake' and 'accelerator'. Pull it towards yourself to slow down, push forward to go faster. You won't be able to carry a child, there's no room. BUT, there is a cable car up and down in two different areas of the wall, so you can take that and the child with you. Really, it was a blast, but perhaps convince one of the other family members to carry the child while you enjoy the ride? Just a thought...(I don't have kids so perhaps I'm not very qualified to give an opinion, sorry!)

- etc

Supermarkets in Beijing

by machomikemd

Like what I've said in my previous beijing tips, buying your stuff is cheapest in the supermarkets but a word of caution, you must have patience since spoken english here in almost non existent! remember that the supermarkets are not located in the tourist areas and you need directions in chinese characters in going to them especially in using taxis. This is one such supermarket in the dong cheng district which happens to be near our place.

the supermarket's name is Tiankelong Supermarket (Jiaodaokou Branch) Ìì¿Í¡ (½»µÀ¿Úµê)
Location: No.113, Jiaodaokou Dongdajie (½»µÀ¿Ú¶«´ó½Ö), Dongcheng District
Tel: 010-64042314

again a 500 cc bottled water is just 1.50 RMB and a 1.5 Liter Bottled water at 3 RMB!
a 500 cc bottle of my favorite C 100 lemon drink at just 4 RMB
a bag of Oishi Snacks at 2 RMB
1.5 liter of Coca Cola at 7 RMB
1 500 ml bottle of tsingtao beer at 5 RMB
1 pack of Marlboro at 15 RMB
and a lot of other stuffs! if your hotel happens to be near one, i would suggest you go and buy stuff and see the local pecularities of a chinese supermarket.

Packing List

by zypher_girl

it's important to bring one hard suitcase-the ones with locks-to make sure ur expensive stuffs r safe. u may wish to bring few travel bags as well, that's for ur shopping later (believe me, u'll end up having lots of stuffs with u when u leave china!). but it's not a problem, u can always buy any type of suitcase or bag here at a very reasonable price. winter is beijing can be FREEZING and yeah, it SNOWS! so bring ur warmest clothes, together with hat, scarf and glooves.
summer is just the opposite, absolutely BOILING! in july (the hottest month), sometimes the temperature reaches 40C. ur usual summer gears will do and sunglass will do u good for sure!
most hotels have conditioners or central heating system, haven't heard any complain from my friends so far ;) there r mosquitos in summer in beijing, u can either bring ur own medical stuffs or buy them in local supermarkets and pharmacy.
sunscreen is essential, coz the sun is very strong in summer (once a friend of mine from queensland got terribly sunburnt! tough!).
*ONE THING TO REMEMBER*: do not drink tap water without boiling it! it's not safe! hotels offer boiled water, kettles or mineral water. u can also buy mineral water easily in shops. photo films r cheaper comparing with the same brand sold abroad (e.g. kodak, fuji) and can be developed at a cheaper price (usually $2-$3 for a 36-photo one) with good quality. all kinds of batteries can be found in shoppping centers or photo shops.
however, in some area it might not be that convinient to re-charge digital camera. as i mentioned, winter is FREEZING in the north, if u wanna play David Blaine, then go ahead & i wish u good luck! and summer... MOSQUITOS! (zeee....zeeeeeee... gonna suck ur blood good!) u can buy most of the stuffs u want here, really. unless there is something SPECIAL and u DESPERATELY need it... say... like... blue cheeze?! *once a friend asked me where he can buy basil.. that i honestly don't know, maybe u can grow some on ur terrace? :-O

Behind Hongqiao Market Toy Store

by busy_traveller123 about Hongqiao Market (Pearl Market)

Behind Hongqiao market (to the right hand side) you go down a small road and there is a diagonal large door (people will be walking in and out) this is another market in which you can buy stationary, toys, PSP, play-stations etc... For cheap toys pay approx less than 50RMB

Enjoy "entertainment" while tasting Chinese tea!

by Sally_chen about "Lao She " tea house

This is a well-konwn tea house found in 1988 .What makes this place different from those "new tea house " are their very Chinese decolation, Beijing imperial court snack .Moreover, they have daily live performance from 19: 00-21:00 . The show includes Beijing opera/ folk dance /acrobticas ....It is a tourist place , but it has what the foreigners like to see .The price per person ranging from RMB40 to 130 which I think is very reasonable.

Reservation is preferred
