Nice Hotel Close to Wangfujing Street

This is a reasonably new 3 star hotel so everything looks quite new. All the furniture & facilities were still in nice condition. My room was a budget room - with a single bed and no windows - for US$41 per night including breakfast - but met and exceeded my needs and expectations. Would stay here again. I don't know why no one has mentioned this hotel before - it is a 3 star hotel trying to be 4+ star hotel, and the staff generally speak enough English to get by.

Unique Quality: The breakfast buffet will suit a variety of tastes but is biased towards western tastes. However no split between smokers and non smokers. The hotel is very close to a huge variety of restaurants so I would avoid the hotel's own restaurant for dinner.
The hotel is about 2 mins walk from the famous Wangfujing Street shopping area, and about 15-20 mins walk to the Forbidden City.
A variety of bus tours seem to start from outside the hotel possibly because Wangfujing Street is not open to traffic. The hotel is an agent for a tour company. The best value tour seems to be the all day tour to Badaling Great Wall & Ming Tombs for 190 yuan per person including lunch.

where to stay in Beijing

by 1jabbar

Hi;
I'm planning a stopover of 1 week in Beijing and was wondering, since I've no knowledge of Beijing's geographic/historical layout, which section of Beijing I should stay in. Besides the usual historic treasures i.e., Forbidden City, Tiananmen Sq., The Great Wall and others, our family enjoys outdoor markets, shopping, restaurants. If you know sections of Bejing that will best help us enjoy our stay I would like to hear from you.

When I was in Beijing I stayed at the Nanjing Great Hotel.

I chose this hotel because it was relatively close to the Forbidden City & Tiananmen Square, and it is right next to the main shopping street, Wangfujing St. The price was very good as well. The hotel has tours you can join. I did one for the Great Wall & Emperor Tombs. There are restaurants everywhere as well.

Thank you all who replied to my question. Although the trip is not for a number of months I'm looking forward greatly to the visit.
