LUXURIOUS Hotel with fab brekky BUFFET
by AusPinay
As my trip was sponsored by the Chinese Embassy in cooperation with the Chinese media organizations in Manila, Philippines, I and my colleagues of journalists and photojournalists were billeted in the luxurious Hotel Nikko Beijing. It was magical as it was my first stay at a five star hotel!
We stayed there for five glorious nights and every minute there was most wonderful!
I must remind you I was there a decade ago but it is the food that could possibly be worth checking out again! Especially the enormous breakfast buffet of western and Chinese menus, I looked forward to each breakfast every day of my stay there!
Unique Quality: Fantastic breakfast buffet, picture perfect foyer, good service (no tipping needed as compared to the American way of essential tipping!)
Directions: near many embassies, and high tech end of Beijing district

Very nice hotel
by loliver
This hotel was very nice, even though the area around the hotel has an industrial feel. Not many places to walk to in the evening, unless you wanted to walk across the 8 lane road and visit a Carre Foure store.
Unique Quality: If you want to swimming in the pool, bring a swimming cap or pay 15 US Dollars to buy one.

Nikko New Century Beijing Hotel (Part 2)

Here are some photographs of my room at the Nikko New Century Beijing Hotel. Pretty standard room, nice and comfortable. Imanaged to get a room at a high floor, so the views of the city from up here is quite good.
Overall, this hotel is a good choice if you need to get around the north-western part of the city (e.g. business trips). If you are at Beijing for sightseeing, perhaps you can choose a more centralised hotel in the city.

This is a good hotel located at the north-west part of Beijing City near to the zoo and botanic gardens. The staff are friendly, and the room is clean with all the usual stuff you will expect from a good hotel. The lobby is very grand but lack enough seats for people to sit (except if you were to patronise the coffee lounge at the centre of the lobby.
Location-wise, it is not so near to the city centre and sights such as the Forbidden City, Tiananmen etc. Please go to part 2 of this tip.

Which hotel should we choose?
by ginaled
We are a couple with our 2 teenage daughters planning to go to Beijing this april or may. Can anybody suggest which hotel below- should we choose considering our daughters want to shop during our free time? These are hotels available for booking with a local travel agent and which suits our budget-
Grand Mercure Hotel- xidan beijing,Holiday Inn Downtown, Hilton Hotel.
Hoping for your reply.

Wangfujing is Beijing bigest shopping Sqr open day and night, and there is Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza hotel in there. If you dont get room there, Grand Mercure at Xidan is good. Take Metro From Xidan east bound 3 stops to Wangfujing. In between the stops is Tiananmen Sqr, Forbidden city, and some nice local parks. You can spend good 3 days just in that area. Have good travel.

I know its not on your list but we stayed at the Novotel Peace hotel which very close the Wanfujing shopping area and Forbidden City. This was quite reasonably priced.

This is not in your list but you might consider this too-Hotel Nikko Beijing- we stayed here when we were there in May couple fo years ago (extremely cold so make sure you got lots of warm clothes). The buffet was fabulous, hope it hasn't changed!
Another tip- they have free sweets and drinks at the executive lounge.
It is conveniently located. The hotel is approximately 3 kilometres and about 10 minutes drive from Tian’an Men Square, and around 25 kilometres, 30 minutes drive from Beijing’s Capital International Airport.
Here's their website-http://www.holidaycity.com/jinglun-nikko-beijing/index.htm
Cheers and happy trip!
