Park Plaza
This was the nicest hotel that I stayed in while traveling in China. The hotels location to the Forbidden City and other sight is great and with in walking distance to Wanfujing.
Located centrally in the Wangfujing area, this hotel is close to everywhere you want to get to downtown.
The subway station is right out the door for those areas that are not downtown, or you can arrange to hire a driver at the front desk for daytrips.
Service was great!
Rooms were cleaned twice daily.
Front desk was very helpful regarding local information, and everyone there spoke English, even if just a little.
Breakfast buffet was delicious, a mix of Chinese and western.
Clientelle was mostly a mix of Chinese travelling in-country and Europeans from various countries.
Rooms start at about 700 yuan/night (depending on room and occupancy), and go up from there.
Unique Quality: This is a newer hotel, and has already won service awards, as well as best new hotel in 2006.
There are lounges on both the ground and uppermost floors, with an exercize room on the second floor. Three restaurants. But no pool, which was a disappointment...
We stayed in this wonderful hotel for 8 nights and loved it. Cost was approx $70 USD per night. The location is excellent in the historic district in the city center. The staff was friendly, the service excellent and the accomodations very beautiful. The hotel is only 2 years old. The breakfast buffet was very reasonable @ 50 RMB or $6 USD per person per day and had an incredible assortment of food and new items (both western and chinese) every day. The concierge staff was most helpful and though language was difficult everywhere, they made everything really easy. I would just tell them where I wanted to go and they would arrange it for me. When I went to the Great Wall, they arranged for a taxi to pick me and my two teenagers up at the hotel, drive us to the Wall, wait 2 hours while we climbed it, stop and wait while we visited the Ming Tombs on the way back at the hotel. Cost was 700 RMB or $94 USD for all three of us for the taxi services. Unbelievable! Great hotel....close to the Forbidden City, Ti'aneman Square, Silk Market and shopping district.
Unique Quality: The hotel also had a spa. 1 hour reflexology massage was $300 RMB or approx $42 USD...that was a treat. Starbucks right next door.
Directions: Historic district.
December 2007.
This does not compare to the luxurious Raffles Beijing which I have stayed at, but it's a really nice hotel that is clean, safe, nice and 'happy' and overall 4/5 rating. The rooms are quite nice and not that small. The lighting is bright, washrooms are clean and room overall is very comfortable after a day out sightseeing and shopping.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone going to Beijing.
Raffles is my first choice, but this is a close 2nd for now =)
Unique Quality: If you do stay at the Park Plaza, by all means sign up for the breakfast for a few bucks more. It is WELL worth it. We got up daily and headed for the breakfast buffet that served as both our breakfast and lunch. The assortment of foods there was awesome and so yummy - from your local north american fair, fresh fruits, french pastries, eggs cooked to your liking, fresh juices, dim sum, chinese dishes (even custom made noodle soups) and congee. Well worth it.
Also, if you sign up for the package, you can get coffee/tea 7 * 24 in the upstairs 'lounge'/meeting room area. Happy hour (with munchies) is also included in some packages. One nice thing about this was the free use of internet in the rooms and also internet access upstairs in the 'lounge' with a well-stocked printer for your use to print out those last minute shopping lists - lol.
The staff there are really helpful and friendly.
The only drawback with this hotel is that most cabbies do not know where it is as it is quite new and 'hidden'. If you ever get into a cab and the cabbie does not 'appear' to know, just tell them it is 'behind the Rejent Hotel' Or mention the 'JIN BAO' office tower. If they drop you off at either places, the hotel is within a stone's throw and a few paces to the entrance.
Also, if you arrange tours from the hotel, you may be able to 'negotiate' a better price. Give it a try. Also, make sure to tip the busboy, concierage, doorman etc, well after your stay as these poor guys don't make that much for standing out in the freezing cold - haha.
I have stayed at the Novotel Peace and they stuck us in a annex, not the tower as promised. I will never stay there again. The room at the Peace was small and the hallways smelled of the cleaning solution they used. Beware of hotels with fancy foyers.
Directions: 1. behind The Rejent Hotel
2. Next to the Jin Bao office tower
We stayed here 5 days and found it very comfortable, well appointed, quiet and with helpful staff.
The buffet breakfast catered to all tastes from simple fruit and toast through to a range of Western and Asian cooked breakfasts.
The hotel was well situated, only a couple of blocks from Wangfujing and its shops.
As we were mainly transported by tour bus I'm not sure of its situation in relation to public transport.
This was the nicest hotel that I stayed in while traveling in China. The hotels location to the Forbidden City and other sight is great and with in walking distance to Wanfujing.
E-House Z-Park Hotel is located at Zhongguancun Software Park in Beijing. It is quite close to the Summer Palace. This is a three star four storey hotel with approximately 220 well-furnished rooms and other basic facilities. Buffét breakfast restaurant is located on the ground floor. The hotel is generally clean and the services are up to our expectations.
My wife and I stayed at the Park Plaza Wangfujing for two nights - May 18-19, 2007.
My first recommendation for this hotel is to make certain you have the hotel name written down in Chinese prior to getting in a taxi. The hotel is not well known amongst Beijing taxi drivers, at least not the dozen or so I asked to take us to the Park Plaza.
I hate to start on a sour note, but the check in was simply awful. The hotel clerk, while friendly enough, must have been on his first day. He did manage to get us checked in with the help of a colleague, but when he refused to change a hundred so that I could tip the bellman I realized he was plain incompetent.
The rooms are fine - clean sheets, nice bed, tv, free wired internet, mini bar and safe. The bathroom is a good size and the towels are clean. Ladies - bring your own conditioner. The best part about the hotel is the housekeeping staff. The room was impeccably clean and the turn down service a nice touch. The room service is prompt and the food passable. About 10 USD per meal per person. The breakfast is average serving low quality juices, asian and western standards and an omelet stand.
I do not recommend the tours booked by the concierge. The prices are about double what you would pay at the local tour agents. Particularly annoying is the fact that the Park Plaza is the second of nine hotels on the coach pick up tour. Therefore a six hour tour to the Great Wall took eight hours while we stopped at every hotel in Dongcheng and the CBD both ways. The tours also include and stop a a 'Silk Museum' which is a blatant scam. Book a private car for tours if you have the means.
In conclusion, I would recommend this hotel. However, I am not sure why it would merit such a high ranking on trip advisor. The staff is fair, the rooms are standard and the food average. The value for money is fine. The location is the best part about the place. The Park Plaza Wangfujing is a safe bet, but nothing special.
Good luck in your travels.
Wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and it was within walking distance to the Forbidden City (<15 minutes) and subway stop (Dongdan). Easy to get to shopping and food (2 blocks from Wangfujing St). Customer-facing staff spoke excellent english and always made sure that the taxis got the directions right before you left the hotel. Great breakfast buffet as well. Will definitely stay here again if we're back in town.
I recently stayed at the Crowne Plaza Wangfujing for 6 days and 5 nights.
the location is superb, just a stone's throw away from the Wangfujing Night market and 5 mins brisk walk to Quanjude, the famous peiking duck restaurant. Most taxi drivers know where it is as well.
The hotel staff were friendly and top marks to the concierge and bellboys for going through great lengths in helping me retrieve a package i left on my trolley whilst getting into a taxi at the airport. - and realising it only after 2 hours!!! Could not have asked for better bunch of people.
Most of them spoke English although some, rather basic. what I liked was the 3D location map of Beijing, provided by the hotel to all guests. It also indicated approximate taxi fares to the popular tourist locations from the hotel, in order to prevent you from being taken for a ride by the taxi drivers literally.
Only down side was the lack of breakfast buffet variety - it didnt change one bit in 6 days....after the 3rd day, I could decide what I wanted for breakfast whilst in the shower. :P
Overall, will not hesitate to stay at this hotel the next time I am in Beijing again.
Can someone give an estimate on the cost of a taxi from the airport to the Park Plaza Wangfujing? Thank you.
It's about 30-35km from airport to Wangfujing.
The actual distance and cost depend on the route and time.
The 2nd ring road of Beijng always have a traffic jam, so some taxi drivers prefer the 3rd ring road with longer distance.
Anyway, the cost normally should be no more than RMB100 including the fee for speedway.
Hi,
my friend, if there is no traffic jam. I think it will cost you about 120yuan-150yuan from Beijing Internation Airport to Wangfujing.
www.nihaochinatours.com
Last week we paid 150 Yuan (15 EUR) for a taxi from the centre of Beijing to the airport. Between 120 - 150 Yuan is the price.
about 100RMB(day time, not has traffic jam), about 130RMB after 11 PM
Do not let anyone show you to a cab. They are TOUTS. Do not agree to a price. Insist on a metered cab and insist that they turn the meter on.
