Air Conditioner in hostels? or NOT?

by luckynoby

Hello everyone!

I can not wait to visit Beijin in August for the Olympics.

I heard that summer in Beijing is extremely hot and humid. ;-(

Does eveyone know a youth-hostel which has an air-conditioner in each room?

I will be waiting for your help!

Best regards;

I think ALL the hostels have air-conditioning in the rooms.
BTW if you've only started to look for Olympic-time accommodation, good luck. They're all very expensive, including the hostels.

you can try staying at the university's dorm. I don't know if every university offers that though. I know Beijing Normal University offers that. Their fee last year is around 180RMB per room(Good for 2 people)

Try for Central Conservatory of Music. The usual universities are all located further out thus not as convenient.

Hi,

I don't think all room with indepent air-conditioner.

During the summer games, it is quite difficult to find out a good price for Hostel or Motel, not even for Hotel.

Try follow ebay Link:

Travel Tips for Beijing

I have to say that I often remember of the chinese breakfast. It is so different to the european breakfast and I really miss it.

What did I eat:

Baozi (stuffed steamed rolls)

You tiao

Dou jiang (bean juice) If you speak a little bit chinese it would help to order what you really want to eat. Unfortunately I don´t speak that language but with the help of native people I never ate anything which I didn´t like to eat.

Mongolian Hot Pot

by rui_bijie

If you are a group of people, you should try the Mongolian Hot Pot (or Fire Pot). It's offered in numberous restaurants - reserve in advance!

The traditional Mongolian Hot Pot includes two different soup broths, in which thinly sliced, bite size pieces of lamb or beef, and vegetables are cooked.
WATCH OUT! The dark side is damned hot!

Rickshaw Hutong tour. A chance to see how people lived and the added bonus of getting to meet a family and enter a private hutong. Hutongs consist of four (north, east, south, and west) buildings with a courtyard in the center. The ride is also a great change of pace from all the walking you'll do in Beijing!

Flea market

by Lemonita about Panjiayuan Market

Panjiayuan is known as a flea market. Part of this market is open everyday and the other part will only open on Saturday and Sunday. There are a lot of second hand books as well as antiques (fake and real). Local and ethnic art crafts can be found. This is quite entertaining as the market is pretty large.
Of course, do not forget to bargain...

Cycling around Beijing central

by ardneh

Near the Forbiden city, somewhere at the back alley, that means in the direction away from the Tianmen Square, you should be able to find places to rent bicycle. They're a bit expensive because they rent on the hourly charges (around 20 yuan/hour).

I rent my bicycle from my hotel and cost around 70 yuan for 6 hours. It's fun to cycle around the city. You should be able to visit Tianmen square, Forbidden city, Tien Tan Temple, Lama Temple, Wang Fu Jing street, Pearl's market within 6 hours. Although you may want to spend more time on Forbidden City or Tien Tan Temple (with the later one has a lot more beautiful park).

Just be careful to lock your bike and try to put it with the rest of the bicycles you can find. I think in Wang Fu Jing, you can pay about 1 to 3 yuan for parking your bicycle.
