"Sunworld Hotel - Center of Downtown Beijing"

Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on March 15, 2013

As I have mentioned in my profile, I am a Hotel Enthusiast, regardless of category level. I find everything about it very interesting - from the building structure & design, to the smallest amenity & simplest service.

In this review, I will share to you OUR PERSONAL LEVEL OF SATISFACTION, base on our experience, by simply rating the amenities and services that we have used and availed during our stay. My rating will be from the scale of 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest). I will also highlight the hotel's outstanding qualities and features, if there's any.

Ratings for Sunworld Hotel Beijing:
Reception - 5 (Low rate due to Language Barrier)
Room (Double Deluxe) - 10 (Complete Amenities & very clean)
Room Service - 10 (Fast service)
Housekeeping - 10 (Fast service)
Breakfast Buffet (Sunny Cafe) - 7 (Food is great but menu almost never changes)
Bell Service - 5 (Low rate due to Language Barrier)
Security - 10

Unique Quality: * LOCATION - Sunworld Hotel (formerly Beijing Tianlun Songhe Hotel) is located in dongcheng district, the center of downtown Beijing at the corner of Wangfujing and Dengshikou (the 'Golden Street' and 'Silver Street' of Beijing). Sunworld Hotel Beijing is near many famous historical and cultural landmarks, including the Forbidden City, Tian An Men. There are many commercial buildings and shopping malls in close vicinity. Just across the hotel are various eateries and cake shops, which my husband and I loved!

Central and Quiet

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on January 20, 2009

This hotel (formerly the Tianlun Songhe Hotel) is just a block away from Wangfujing Dajie and all of the shopping and eating along this major street destination. It's also only a few minutes walk to the Donghuamen Night Market and Wangfujing Snack Street. A bit further are the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. Our room was about the size of a mid-level hotel room here in the States (e.g., Hampton Inn) with a large bed, chair with ottoman, and a desk. The dresser included a minibar and safe, the latter free to use for guests. The bathroom had been update with marble and glass and like in most 4-star hotels in China, included a hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothbrushes, and comb.

Downstairs each morning was a really great breakfast buffet with an omelette station, American favorites, European breakfast items, as well as Chinese dishes such as steamed buns, fresh noodles, and congee (rice porridge). Service is good at all levels, English is spoken at the front desk, and the concierge was quick to help with restaurant and foot massage recommendations. All in all a nice property.

As we were on a tour that included accomodations, I'm not sure what our nightly rate was. However, Trip Advisor lists the average room rate at $111 USD as of 20 January 2009.

Directions: Between Wangfujing and Dongsi South Streets

Not expensive but great location

This hotel was very comfortable (it was warm) and very central in terms of shopping, sightseeing and eating. The subway was about a 10minute walk away.
Business centre (internet), reasonable restaurant, safe, comfortable bed, TV with a range of English progams.

I have included a scanned copy of the hotel card with Chinese name on it.

Cost for 6 nights US$324

Pleasant if Bland Tourist Class Hotel

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on December 4, 2006

I must admit that the Tian Lun Songhe Hotel was a pleasant surprise. I did not know what to expect from this place that had received little in the way of fanfare. I actually found it quite nice and supebly situated. The rooms were a good size with satellite TV and the hotel was well maintained. The staff here was very helpful. The hotel was just off of Wangfuling Dajie, a major Beijing shopping street and pedestrian mall. I could also walk to some of the major attractions from here such as the Forbidden City. I got all of this for a relatively inexpensive price of $60.00 a night. My one complaint about the hotel is that it was rather bland in design. Sort of an indicator of most of my hotels in China.

Unique Quality: The hotel has all the usual enemities. I thought that the restaurant buffet was decent if not great. There is a cafe/bar here were the tour groups go for drinks. I used for a brief moment as a bedroom as I feel asleep here(jetlag).

Directions: One block east of Wangfuling Dajie and 15 minutes from the Forbidden City.

Tianlun Songhe Hotel

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on October 2, 2006

The reason we picked this hotes was for its price and easy book thru internet. The location is great, it's walk distance to Wangfuciang shopping street, or it's right behind Tianlun Dynasti Hotel.

The service especially from concierge and housekeeping were excellent. During our 10 days with a week sufferred from diarhhea they proved their attention and care while front office staff were suck. With our limited ability to extend our stay for care, they didn't show any help at all.

Breafast were also dissapointed and expensive; therefore we preferred to walk for a minutes or two to the closer MCDonald.

Eventhouh their ad said that there's ATM around, that doesn't mean ATM inside the hotel. There're several ATM at a bank cross the street.

Internet speed at business center was slow or sometimes didn't work at all, and it's pricy too.

It's fine to recommend this hotel for those doesn't care much about food and front desk service for location and price.

Bon voyage.

Unique Quality: Great councierge service. Two tumbs up.

Directions: Close by Wangfuciang shopping street or behind Tianlun Dynasti Hotel.

Basic Hotel

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on December 20, 2005

The hotel lobby is decent enough, but arriving at close to midnight means that it's entirely deserted with only 1 staff manning the reception.

The front desk can speak simple english, but not the housekeeping dept.

Overall, it's a basic hotel at reasonable rates if you just need a place to stay.

Unique Quality: The rooms are of reasonable size, but the bathroom is really small.
Even for me, as an Asian, I find it a little too cramp, so I can't really imagine a larger size person trying to move around in the bathroom.

Housekeeping is really quite patient and good. We had to trouble them 3 times in the middle of the night for small things such as how to operate the safe, how to turn on the shower and where the bathroom slippers are.
Each and everytime, they came within 5 mins and each time, they were very patient in assisting us.

The other unique thing is that they change our bathroom slippers and provide new ones everyday. Not entirely common, but really useful to know if you happen to lose them somewhere in the room.

Breakfast, though, needs to be improved upon. It's one of the worst hotel breakfast I ever had. Maybe it's because they don't really know how to make nice international breakfast. I stayed for 5 nights there, and ate my breakfast there once.

Directions: Near to Wangfujing, the shopping belt for Beijing.

Centrally located

This hotel is right next to Wangfujing St and a couple of blocks from Tainanmen Square
I was quite surprised by the level of service in this hotel. Comfortable rooms, attentive staff and quite a good spread for the buffet breakfast.

Unique Quality: The health club downstairs offers massages and, although a little expensive (RMB300/45mins), they are just the thing to get those kinks out before the long flight home.

Directions: Wangfujing area

Novotel Song He Hotel.

This is a reasonable 3-star hotel in the heart of Wangfujing, in easy walking distance to almost all the famous sites of Beijing. However, the complimentary American breakfast was not quite up to Western standards.
