Beijing
Beijing is a vast city. That is the first thing that strikes you when you travel to your hotel from the airport. The commercialisation is obvious with the tall glass buildings and highways that are cropping up as a result few 'hutongs' are left.
The mammothness of the city and China for that matter is obvious even in their palaces. The Forbidden City seems never endeing and I must admit that after visiting a few of the buildings they all seemed the same. The buildings are also very stark and bare. The Summer Palace is no exception to the idea of big - with a huge man-made lake right there in the middel of the city.
The attraction was visiting the Great Wall. To think of the number of men who toiled to build something that big (again!) and in harsh conditions leaves one in a contemplative mood.
