BOOKING TOURS AND DAY TRIPS IN BEIJING

by alyf1961

Hi, we are going to Beijing in July for a week.
I want to go on some tours but I do not want to book them in advance online. How easy is it to book tours whilst in Beijing and where do you book them i.e. travel agents?

very, very easy. in fact it is better to wait until you are here to book. the prices will be better and you will have a bigger selection of activities. be sure to shop around for a good deal.

I'd say no problem. Most accommodations offer tours and what not.

I have booked Mutianyu Great Wall tour with an agency. I haven't made any payment until the tour has been completed. I was very satisfied with it. Comparing with the tours arranged by hotels, the prices are reasonable and fair. I paid 25 USD per person and it was worth every cent. I will include this tour as a tip, but they have more than that. One of the VT members maxi516 has connection with them and you can get details from him. Here is the link for the tour options : http://www.t-bj.com/beijing-tours. If you find a better deal in Beijing you can still cancel this tour.

Why a tour rather than DIY?
The only thing that I think a tour (or pre-arranged transport) would be helpful for, is the Great Wall.

Actually it's easy to book tours in beijing either bus tours or private tours. I suggest you'd book it in advance, so that you can compare everything. CITS Chongqing (the travel agency) is worthy of trust and you can pay it once you start your tour there.

Why recommend a tour agency in Chongqing, for trips in Beijing?

Tian An Men (Gate of Heavenly Peace)

by sunnywong

The symbol of New China, this gate was built in 1417 and renovated in 1981. It was originally called the Gate of Heavenly Succession. The late Chairman Mao proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic of China on the rostrum on October 1st, 1949. The gate has five passages, which were closed and used only on ceremonial occasions in the old days.

Beijing Olympics Complex Up Close

by opalzebra3

The 2008 Summer Olympics was one of the most spectacular ever. I was in Beiing in 2007 while the Olympics complex was still under construction and our tour bus just swung by on our way to the Great Wall. In September 2008, I visited the Olympic Complex but the Paralympics was on-going so the area was crowded and a bit restricted. We took the Subway to Beitucheng Station and walked 3KM to the National Stadium aka the Birds Nest. Then we had to hike back 3KM to the Beitucheng Station. Exhausting! This time, thanks to more thorough research in bjbus.com, we took Bus 82 from Qianmen that dropped us right outside the National Aquatic Center aka the Water Cube. From there we walked around the area of the Birds Nest, the Water Cube and the Indoor Stadium. Great photo ops!

Este mercado de antiguedades está abierto toda la semana pero los fines de semana es cuando está más animado y se instalan los vendedores en los puestos alrededor del mercado

This antiques market is open all week but on weekends it is when is more lively and sellers are installed in stalls around the market
Whether you are just going to see how if you go to buy , it worthy a visit to know it for its size, by the wonders and curiosities that you may see and the curious people of all ethnic groups in China, which are together here to sell their memories , curious and antiques
You may get good prices , as good as those that you get in the different parts of China

SANLITUN

by ancient_traveler about Sanlitun Bar Street

Sanlitun is one of the best know and most popular bar streets in Beijing. Sanlitun, which is also used to refer to the general area, is located in Eastern Beijing in the Chaoyang District and forms part of the Gongti nightlife area . Despite several threats of closure, it remains fashionable with the expat community, foreign travelers and younger locals.
