More about Yanxiang Hotel Beijing

Best hotel for Muslims

by JuraidahJ about Yanxiang Hotel

This is the best place for a Muslims to stay in Beijing. It caters for Muslims.

Just round the corner, there is another shopping place where they call it the market. Same stuff as in Silk Street. Bargain as low as possible. This hotel caters for Muslims. They have a Muslim kitchen and so forth.. even praying hall. Every room are provided with the direction of Ka'aba.

Very friendly staff and located in the city area. Good city view.

Upon request they will even wake you up for your Subuh (dawn) prayers.

Travel Tips for Beijing

When greeting a Chinese, you'd...

by Krystynn

When greeting a Chinese, you'd notice that they will often avoid direct eye contact. I'm talking about the really traditional/ old-fashioned Chinese. Slightly lowered eyes are considered a sign of respect. Avoid prolonged eye contact as it may be uncomfortable for the Chinese as well as being perceived as rude.

So, please don't think that these people have something to hide or are suffering from deep insecurities if they behave the way they do O.K? It's just the culture thingy, I guess....

Huang Hua Section - Great Wall

by Lemonita

Huang Hua is a section of the Great Wall which is situated at around 2 hours drive (from Downtown) on the north east. We had actually called for a driver at an agency which is specialized in tours to different sections of the Great Wall. The day trip cost us 400 RMB, which we think was reasonable.

Huang Hua isn't that "wild" as the area is quite well maintained and we observed quite a lot of people (well more than I expected actually). The Great Wall itself is very impressive as it built at the top of a mountain... Please see it for yourself on the pic !
Apart from that, climbing on the Great Wall doesn't require a lot of physical strength, the little hike around the mountain on which the Wall is quite nice and relaxing... It is a nice day trip from the bustling city of Beijing !

Silk Market with less the crowd

by Nprawira about MEN shopping center

The latest addition to Beijing's population of markets, MEN has roughly the same stock of goods as the Silk Market does but in keeping with the spirit found in the Full Link Plaza, only has one tenth of the crowd. Perusing this Russians-targetted market, evident from the Russian script in every store, is a welcoming breeze compared to its hectic compatriot. Naturally the lack of competing buyers give you the chance to set the tone and haggle harder. Apart from the usual men's and women's cloths, you can find beddings and various kinds and styles of shoes and bags.

Different types of taxi in Beijing

by Lemonita

There are different taxis in Beijing meaning that each type charges differently. Usually, there's a sticker on the windows in the back, indicating which type it is. The minimum fee is 10 RMB.

- 1,20 : This is the cheapest taxi in town. It charges 1,20 RMB for every km. It has no A/C but when you open the windows, you don't feel particularly hot in the summer.
These 1,20 taxis cannot take passengers FROM the airport (only 1,60 and 2 are allowed) so don't be surprised if they refuse to take you there as they will be forced to go back downtown with an empty cab.

-1,60 : these taxis have A/C and are usually in a better condition than the 1,20 ones.

-2,00 : usually, these taxis are not red like the other two types, they are black and of a higher class. Generally, they only run between hotels and the airport.
