Sneak peak
by upsydown
Having just started with this site, I decided to share some of my pictures.. When you walk, rather than getting a bus (even if it drops you at your door) there is always plenty to see everywhere you look. The scam girls in the streets trying to chat you up. ^_^
Lonely Planet
by aukjejetty
Take a lonelyplanetguide with you, the newest one is from August 2002. A good guide is more important here than in western countries, because of the fast pace of change.
There are new guesthouses popping up everywhere. Also still new places to discover. I went to Pingyao in 2000, which was not in the Lonely Planet then, but it is now.
MUST CARRY TISSUE AT ALL TIMES!
by kangningchang
bring a light jacket, the temp difference can be as much as ten degrees in the day/night Sun block. Beijing skies seem to have no clouds... When you get to Beijing, it would be wise to buy a packet of tissues (the easy to carry around type) they're cheap and you will need them! most public bathrooms in beijing do not provide toilet paper, and you'll be glad that you have some when you need it.
Ming Tombs
by keeweechic
This is the resting place of 13 of the 16 Ming emperors. The tombs tend to be a disappointment but the government is enhancing the area with a museum, helicopter rides over the tombs and the Great Wall amongst other things. Tour operators generally offer combination excursions to the tombs and the Great Wall.
Club for the Westerners
by Jimmyt83 about The Den (Dun Huang)
Dont let the inital scenery fool you. We first walked into this place to see nothing but old travelling business men kicking back getting drunk. We didnt think we would last too long, but after a while the dance floor upstairs started to get some younger people and we were in for a big one.
Spirits can be bought by the bottle and are usually more expensive, but the place goes pretty well on saturday nights. Watch out for hookers on the prowl though. Usual, bar nightclub stuff
