The rooms are not too small and you can get a good price during the slow summer months. I identified myself as a Virtual Tourist hotel reviewer and was given a discounted price of 200 RMB, which is about 25 US dollars.
The location is excellent. First of all, you're right in the middle of Haidian Book City, so it's perfect for bookworms who want to buy books in Beijing. Take a look at the photo again. On both sides of the hotel you can find Chinese fast food. A McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, and Papa John's Pizza are all just minutes away by foot. On the second floor of the hotel building is a nice smoke-free Internet bar that only charges 4 RMB per hour, about the US equivalent of 50 cents. It's open from 08:00 to midnight, so you can check your e-mail and visit Virtual Tourist for one US dollar. It's about a 10 minute walk to Peking University's southwest corner, where you can enter and find a cheap campus laundromat that features same day wash-and-fold service for about 10 RMB, less than 2 US dollars.
Bus links to the main downtown destinations are a short walk away, so this hotel would be ideal for a budget tourist who doesn't mind staying closer to the Summer Palace rather than the Forbidden City.
