The Westin Beijing Chaoyang: Best hotel,best service,best location

Well, i've stayed at the Westin many many times and i would like to say that in my opinion is the Best place to stay in Beijing; is very well located at the Chaoyang District, just in front of the Lufthansa center and few minutes away from the Embassies´s street or Sanlitun, and in Sanlitun you can enjoy the best of Beijing´s malls and small markets, bars and night clubs.

The service is perfect, the restaurant in the first floor has the best buffer you can get in all Chaoyang area. Most of the hotel´s staff speaks perfect english. The heavenly beds are really heavenly specially at the Diplomatic suite.

Red Lantern House: A Taste of Living in Hutong

Spent 4 nights at Red Lantern and am very satisfied.

The rooms are clean and shared toilets are decent. Place is located about 15 mins from the Jishuitan station and there are many buses at the main road that leads to major sights.

There are 3 sections that comes under their management. The 2 compounds (main and east yard) in Zhengjie Hutong are better situated. The West yard though quieter is further from the subway station. Do take note of this when you make your bookings.

It is located in a hutong which makes it a more interesting stay than the usual hostels.

Spring Garden Hotel: beijing siheyuan

Last autumn,I stayed at the spring garden courtyard hotel.The hotel very nice.Spring garden courtyard hotel,a hotel in a chinese traditional,deluxe courtyard,comprises a south and a west garden.Stylistically different are the hutongs and architectures of the two districts where the south and the west garden respectively locate.

the room is pure chinese style.

Nikko New Century Beijing Hotel (Part 2)

Here are some photographs of my room at the Nikko New Century Beijing Hotel. Pretty standard room, nice and comfortable. Imanaged to get a room at a high floor, so the views of the city from up here is quite good.

Overall, this hotel is a good choice if you need to get around the north-western part of the city (e.g. business trips). If you are at Beijing for sightseeing, perhaps you can choose a more centralised hotel in the city.

Nikko New Century Beijing Hotel (Part 1)

This is a good hotel located at the north-west part of Beijing City near to the zoo and botanic gardens. The staff are friendly, and the room is clean with all the usual stuff you will expect from a good hotel. The lobby is very grand but lack enough seats for people to sit (except if you were to patronise the coffee lounge at the centre of the lobby.

Location-wise, it is not so near to the city centre and sights such as the Forbidden City, Tiananmen etc. Please go to part 2 of this tip.

Gloria Plaza Hotel: Gloria Plaza

Lobby - Satisfactory
Rooms - Large enough but basic.
Room Amenities - No ironing board; iron provided by chambermaid was broken and leaking.
Breakfast - Sufficient spread but not sumptious.
Service - Some staff are just indifferent and hardlt smiles.

Indoor pool - from the brochures, didnt check out actual place.

Beijing International Hotel: Yet a 5-star

Interestingly, i just realised that this is a 5-star hotel when i went to check out the contact details for this post.

The decor, the huge lobby and the spacious rooms are probably near 5-star standards. But when i compare it with Traders Beijing, it is somewhat lacking in exclusivity and warmth. And this is more or less reflected in the prices.

So, it is recommended, but definitely not at 5-star standards.

Beijing News Plaza Hotel: Comfort in City Centre

This hotel is comfortable, centrally located and comes with reasonable rates.

Stayed there for a few days on business and is quite satisfied.

Within walking distance from the Wangfujing shopping/business area.

Novotel Xinqiao Hotel, Beijing: Budget Business Travel

Stayed there on a few occasions for business. The rooms are generally clean and the hotel is quite value for money.

It is however, a great irritant to travel by taxi to Wangfujing area in the morning. It takes 30 mins for an otherwise 10 mins ride. In any case, traffic in Beijing is a pain everywhere during peak hours so, do factor in the extra time for travelling.

Recommended for personal or business trips on slightly tighter budget.

Apart from the subway station right at the entrance, there is a local mall across the street that one can venture to when bored.

Q: beijing to xian train ticket "is it ideal to book my train ticket on my arrival to beijing 3 days before departing to xian? or it has to be done online 15 days..."

A: "most of the online tickets are over-priced.You can just do it in Beijing when you are there...3 days before the departure will be fine for the Xian ticket"
