I'm a US citizen. How much money can I take into China leagally?
$5000 or RMB20000.
I think it's about US$5000
Thanks for the answer, now I have another question? If I want to bring more do they charge a fee if you declare the amount. Is it better not to exceed that amount or does it really matter?

I think you should contact the Embassy of the people's Republic of China or one of the specialist travel agencies in your country. I am not at all sure that the figure of US$5000 is correct. I do know that only 6,000RMB may be imported or exported, which might affect the amount you take it, unless you plan on spending it all. www.chinahighlights.com/faq/1.html might be of help.

about US$5000 is good enough for your travel .
The Luo Han Si Temple has a few interesting items in it. I wouldn't make a special trip here though. I still have the ticket glued to my Journal. I didn't write down how much it cost to enter. I also wrote down that I thought the Clay Buddhas had a tacky look to them...But I cannot picture them in my mind!
This wonderful temple on a cliff face will be flooded soon. The old village on the bottom are now being deconstructed. All there's left of it are the muddy foundations, and remains of cobblestone streets. A shame.
