Travel Tips for Chongqing
Shibao Tower
by darthmilmo
Next stop along the Chiang Jiang (Yangzi) River Cruise was at the Shibao Tower. It is best to view it from afar so if you're low on money skip the entrance fee :).
Sadly, this world reknown landmark is yet another magnificant example of a treasure that will be disrupted by progress, the Three Gorge Dam.
Chongqing, China
by eden03
I taught English in Chongqing for just over 2 months. I enjoyed my time there.
Chongqing is a modernized, lively city with a history of over 3000 years!
It's called the 'Mountain City' because of the buildings on hillsides and mountains surrounding the city.
The climate in Chongqing is cloudy and misty so it is also called the 'fog city'. Is it fog or is it pollution? Unfortunately that is the one drawback of Chongqing.
Where is Chongqing?
Sittuated in southwest China lies Chongqing.
Did you know that Chongqing is actually one of the few municipalities in China? It became its own municipality in 1997. Others in China are Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin.
Chongqing is growing like crazy -
It has become a very cosmopolitan city within the last 10 years or so.
Other things -
Chongqing is known for its famous 'hot pot' and spicy/hot dishes (Sichuan cooking). There are food places everywhere! So many great dishes to try.
Chongqing would be a great place to head out on a tour of the 3 Gorges, spend a few days shopping and seeing the Northern and Southern Hot Springs as well as checking out Dazu. But wouldn't spend a terribly long time here if travelling throughout China.
