Train tickets from Xian to Chongqing

by tanby

I understand the train from Xian to Chongqing, originates from Lhasa.

Is it difficult to get "soft sleepers" in the month of August?

Is this train always full?

Appreciate your replies.

There are more than just that one train from Lhasa-Xi'an-Chongqing.
A few trains go to Chongqing from Xi'an as they are both major cities.
If you crush into the school term break in the beginning of August, you may
have some problems getting sleepers. Book early.

1) There're 3 trains going from Xi'an to Chongqing in all, the fastest of which is the one which originates in Lhasa. No, I don't think it's particularly difficult to get soft sleepers in August, it's not a particular peak travel period. However on the other hand, it's notoriously difficult to obtain onward train tickets from Xi'an, so be prepared to wait for a few days. Train 2334/2335/2337 might be your best bet (if not your only one) as it originates in Xi'an.
2) No one among us would really, I doubt anyone in this forum is a employee of the Chinese railway!
BTW, the end of school semester would be in July, not August.

I was hoping to get sleepers on T221/T224 (originates from Lhasa) at least on the K15. Both allows me to arrive in Chongqing in good time for my onward bus journey to Dazu.

Being new and 1st trip to China, I would like to experience the T221/T224, can I still get 'soft sleepers' for a 4-days later departure.

I am planning to stay 3 nights in Xian.

Hi Tanby,

Actually, there are three times train from Xian to Chongqing. The 2335 departs at 15:45 in Xian and arrives in Chongqing at 06:12, the soft sleeper is RMB171; The T221 departs at 22:26 in Xian and arrives in Chongqing at 09:17, the soft sleeper is RMB213; The K15 departs at 01:17 in Xian and arrives in Chongqing at 14:53, the soft sleeper is RMB244. I think you have to book it in advance. Please contact jimmy_yj88@yahoo.com.cn for more info.

maybe at this time very good travel season so it is rather tough to get soft sleeper if you book your ticket little before you can get it .

Travel Tips for Chongqing

Sight Overview
Chongqing is...

by zqboy

Sight Overview
Chongqing is essentially a mountain city, surrounded on all sides by steep hills which keep the fog and mist in the basin. The Yangtze and Jialing Rivers embrace the downtown area here however, providing light relief from the industrial city views prevalent throughout much of the area.

The suburbs are home to some of the best spots including various Hot Springs and pleasant mountain walks. In terms of sights and attractions, the reason most people visit this spot is to see (or take a trip along) the Yangtze. Boats for the Three Gorges leave form this city. Please see the information in the Three Gorges section for more details.

Some of the more interesting spots in Chongqing are relics left over from the revolutionary era. Although many of these places have a colorful history, today, they are not particularly fascinating and not worth more than a couple of hours consideration. The Chongqing Municipal Museum, Hongyan Revolutionary Museum (the former office of the Eight Route Army), the cemetery of the revolutionary martyr in the Gele Mountain (Zhazi Cave and Bais' Residence), the Official Residence of Jiang Jieshi and the Residence of Zhang Zhizhong (Gui Yuan) are all worth a look. There are also a few prisons dotted about the town, reminders of the radical past Chongqing has.
