Small, clean and central
The best thing about Gem Hotel is that it is in a very good central location . It is sited on one end of Zhong Shan Road which is the main shopping street in Xiamen. So the shops are just a stones throw away.
While the hotel is fairly simple , caters mainly to overseas Chinese guests and cannot be compared to the international chain hotels, it was clean and met all our basic requirements. Don't expect 5 or even 4 star comforts . It is more like 2.5 stars. We took the most basic room, which was really small. How small? Well, if you see the picture, i took you will notice that there is basically no division between the toilet/bathroom area and the sleeping area. But it did not really matter to us because we were not in Xiamen to hang around in the hotel room anyway.
Unique Quality: The thing we liked best about the hotel was the buffet breakfast. It served traditional chinese food like congee, noodles, dim sum ,etc which was surprisingly good. I have had far worse meals at supposedly 5 star chinese run hotels in Beijing.

Hotel at Zhong Shan Rd
stayed at this hotel for 4 nites. special room design. priced at RM248/night. window view of Zhong Shan Rd. Friendly staff. typical Breakfast style. As its locate at Zhong Shan rd, walking distance to restaurant and shopping area and of cos foot bath/massage place. Safe place.
