Moshixiaozhu Hostel: Budget Accomodation in Gulangyu

Moshixiaozhu Hostel is a small local hostel or Guesthouse in Gulangyu. It is located Guxin Road, nearby the organ museum. It provides clean budget accommodation in Gulangyu. It comes with single or double rooms with shared bath, also rooms with attached bathroom. Most of the rooms have limited space. Most of the budget rooms do not have windows.

Its location is away from shops and restaurants, so it is quiet, but there are not enough street lights in the alley to the hostel so it is dark after 7pm.

This is a great budget accommodation option in Gulangyu as others are ranging from fancy to luxury price tags.

I booked this hostel through www.elong.net.. Y98 per night, a single bed with shared bath. The bathroom is located near the front desk.

Gulangyu International Youth Hostel: the only place that you can meet other travelers

The main problem in China is most of the guesthouses don't provide areas for common usage so it might not be possible to meet and get socialized with the other travelers.Gulangyu hostel is a great place to met the others.The staff is very helpful and both rooms and dorms are very clean.there is a small but a nice garden where you can enjoy your drinks or food.there is a kitchen where each cook costs 10 yuan and there are some western food on their menu which is quite expensive in comparison to the prices in China.
even there is not a bar they sell beer and some spirit but you can also simply buy your beer from the market and enjoy in the garden.There is no bar and only 2 cafes which are quite expensive for budget travelers on the island so the small garden of the hostel seems the best place to have a drink
I would recommend this place for the backpackers and the mid range travelers as the dorms are cheap and convienent for the backpackers mid-range travelers can enjoy the single or double suits
which offers more than a budget hotel

there is 10% discount for the customers who hold an International Hosteling Membership card

Unique Quality: There is an internet access which you can not easily find neither in Xiamen nor Gulangyu
There is Laundry which costs you 5 yuan per a usage of the 5kg machine which the other places ask 3 yuan per piece
There is a video and TV room where there is choice of more than 100 DVDs and Chinese tv chanels
There is a reading room
There is a peaceful garden which can turn to a party place or a playground after a few beers

Wai(4) Mao(4) hotel: 3 star hotel

Hotel located at hu bin bei lu which is next to sofitel Xiamen. Hotel room is quite small. did not really take note of the hotel facilities as i only stayed for 1 night. Though the hotel tariff states 500rmb, always remember to bargain. we stayed there for 250rmb including breakfast. But the breakfast are quite lousy.

Unique Quality: tried looking around the hotel for breakfast restaurant, but it seems that there are no restaurants open for breakfast.

Just on the left of this hotel, there is a tour agency if u want to book any tour trip to other parts of china. for me, i booked a trip to wuyishan which is consider average price. but the lady is very friendly.

Gulangyu Youth Hostel: Youth Hostel in Gulangyu

Unique Quality: I stayed there for 4 days, it is good place to see sunraise and sunset, you can get to know the simple life for local people or enjoy the quite relax here,
I can also play with cats there, a cats family, 5 cats I can see, a momi, 3 cute babies, a white cat maybe is the father and another yellow cat is momi's friend...

This is new hostel, just opened last year Oct, can help for travel advice around Xiamen.

Hu Bin Da (Lakeside Big Hotel): Cheap hotel in Xiamen

Only 187 RMB per night; No bellboys! And the elevator is on the second floor. So we had to carry our heavy baggage up the stairs.
