Swaying sedan chair
by SLLiew
Saw traditional sedan chairs at Fort Huli.
If you cannot walk the steps up this cannon fort, you can hire one of these hammock-like-chair. Last resort as you will be swaying side to side depending on the goodwill of two men carrying you.
Grounds of Nanputuo
by jetimblin
Behind the Nanputuo Si are various paths leading up the slopes of Wulao Shan. These paths can be steep at points but they lead up through several interesting rock formations and alters. You can also get some great views back over the city. The picture here is of one shrine that had thousands of Buhda statues in a cave.
Xiamen - A city rapidly changing its face
by Babybeary
Before I go to Xiamen in China, I was expecting to see rural areas, poor living conditions etc. Well........ thats the impression of China that I got from the stories I have heard of in the past. Relatives and friends shared on creepy tales of toilets being infested with maggots and smells like a potential stink bomb, let alone, there is no door in the toilet. While all those used to be true, China has fiercely developed in these few years. The changes are extremely fast, up to the stage that it is a bit scary.
What welcomed us when we exit the airport were clean roads, nice buildings and when we go to where the people live, they are staying in nicely built house. The city of Xiamen looks like any other developed city with high rise buildings, shopping centres identical to the rest of the world. The young generation dresses very fashionably. Although there are still some places which looks like it needs a face lift, I am sure that those would be out of sight pretty soon. The rate that they are developing, I am sure, I wouldnt be able to recognise it if I go a few years later. It is really amazing.
